nickwitha_k,

How much in “campaign contributions” did it take for this PoS to be declared street legal?

Cruxifux,

So wait… what was holding it on before? Was it literally just friction fit before? Did they even use an adhesive?

If it was just slid on there then that is a huge oversight, one I’m sure was mentioned by at least one designer (I’d hope) but I’m sure was ignored by higher ups.

Gobias_Industries,

I’ve heard that it was a friction fit but it was so hard to slide on in manufacturing that they started using a lubricant (soap-like) to make it easier, which obviously makes it easier to slide off too.

Cruxifux,

Friction fit that slides immediately into the dash to keep the gas pedal locked sounds like madness to me. I’m just a carpentard though, I don’t like things that aren’t supposed to move to move ever.

YerbaYerba,

Sounds like it was simply friction fit. An article said they started using soap during assembly to help install the part. Seems like a systemic failure at Tesla.

Cruxifux,

That’s absolutely insane to me.

Fiivemacs,

I have literally zero clue what I’m looking at. The photo gives no context other then what looks like a footrest with a rivet.

Gobias_Industries,

Apologies, I guess I’m used to reddit where /r/realtesla is a pretty small community so everybody there understands the context.

dragontamer,

Don’t worry, I got it :-)

toynbee,

I agree with you, but from external context (other articles I’ve recently seen on lemmy), I’m pretty sure this is making fun of the Tesla Cybertruck issues which were caused by an unreliable accelerator pedal.

Vilian,

what changed?

reddig33, (edited )

They riveted the pedal decoration to the pedal. This is a fix for the deco sliding up the pedal and jamming it down (leading to unintended acceleration). Now the deco doesn’t move / slide off.

Vilian,

oh, i though it was a role, what lame ass fix, look like the cheap ass shelf that my family had when i was a kid lmao

Gobias_Industries,

You have to wonder how much testing they did on that 4 cent rivet

assembly,

Surprised it’s a single rivet like that. I would assume a bolt top and bottom. At least a rivet top and bottom.

qwertyqwertyqwerty, (edited )

Is that right? Their solution is a single rivet? Can an engineer let us know if this will be enough to hold up for the life of the vehicle?

Vilian,

it’s not to hold for life, just for the nexr quarter

APassenger,

The driver will be fine. It’s the school kids with heads at the same level as the pointy hood that I worry about.
