nickwitha_k,

I think that the majority of those are either accelerationists and/or state/political actors. Accelerationists soundly believe that the ends justify the means and think, despite a clear lack of solid evidence (and contrary evidence ex. Spain), that making things worse will force people to act to make things better. Mass repression and genocide of LGBTQ+ and POC are acceptable losses to reach Utopia… despite that literally never being the outcome at any point in recorded human history.

nickwitha_k,

Oh FFS. Hadn’t realized that implication yet. I fucking hate SEO internet polluters.

I suppose on the bright side maybe, between this and the garbage showing from their AI search, they’ll actually dedicate the necessary resources to make their search usable.

nickwitha_k,

It may be worth checking to ensure that your repo mirrors are set to the best ones for your location. This can be done via the update manager.

nickwitha_k,

I think a big problem is (as of the last time I checked) the complete lack of anyone making practical things for VR. Not saying that everything needs to be practical to justify its existence but, I think that VR companies have been continually trying to skip ahead to the equivalent of where computing is now, ignoring the history of computers being primarily targeted to research and practical applications before they were adopted en masse and provided a lucrative market. So, instead, they just keep making glorified tech demos, hoping that someone else will do the hard work and they can rake in easy money by forcing them through app stores.

TL;DR: I think that short-sighted, profit-driven decision making is the reason that VR isn’t yet anything more than a niche.

nickwitha_k,

I know this exact experience. During university, I think I tested down asking 9ng/dL. My digestive tract nearly stopped. It was awful. Having ADHD, I sometimes forget to take my vitamin D for extended periods, which, while not as severe now that I’m close to the equator, does exacerbate everything.

nickwitha_k,

IMO firewalld because it’s going to be more portable knowledge.

nickwitha_k,

This is even better than my answer.

nickwitha_k,

I think it’s a healthy part of a relationship and shows consideration for one’s partner.

ETA: Thanks for the perfect setup.

nickwitha_k,

Unfortunately, the only thing that will likely make a big difference is practice. I’m a pretty mediocre, if I’m being generous, artist but love a good drawing tablet (got my company to buy me a Wacom!!). It’s a skill like any other (think the hand-eye coordination of using a mouse or video game controller). If you’re really feeling uncomfortable, maybe try some “digital coloring books” or similar.

nickwitha_k,

“Uplifting” intelligent species through selective breeding and/or other techniques. Impractical? Yes. Probably not a good idea? You bet. However, I would really like for humanity to have sentient company.

nickwitha_k,

Seems like all hospitals and medical providers would need to avoid the OS in order to remain in compliance with HIPAA.

nickwitha_k,

If genuinely disturbing, therapy can help.

nickwitha_k,

Bitte. Mein Deutschverständnis ist nicht so gut. Was ist “TechnikNein” auf Englisch? Ist das “techno” musik?

nickwitha_k,

Danke!

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google’s new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won’t slide off (pssst…please don’t do this.)...

nickwitha_k,

Summarizing is something that it does very well. Still not 100% but, when using RAG and telling it “don’t make shit up” can result in pretty good compute efficiency and results.

nickwitha_k,

Part of that is because private education there is not a thing. So some of the funds that would go to for-profit education at the expense of public schools instead goes into taxes to more efficiently fund education.

nickwitha_k,

It also prevents use of education to enforce class divisions.

Has anyone here been prescribed TRT? Or had a partner on it?

Got my bloods done and my Testosterone levels are LOW. I’m working out a lot and kind of pissed Ive been doing it on “hardmode” for god knows how long, but before I take the doc up on the script I’m doing my due diligence on the realities. It seems like every article I find is either written by a trt clinic or is a one...

nickwitha_k,

The biggest thing that you want to be sure if, in my experience, is ensuring that the dosage results in steady levels throughout the month. I had an awful time with the dose being every other week. And when I say awful, I mean “having a full fledged anxiety attack causing me to be pretty much locked inside my head every fortnight, resulting in needing to seek professional help”. Hormonal imbalances can really fuck you up.

nickwitha_k,

I paid a few bucks more to NOT get 76 in the bundle.

nickwitha_k,

I’d guess the latter, unless the licensing is in conflict with their values.

nickwitha_k,

You get it. That’s exactly what I advise to anyone wanting this feature. I’m not familiar enough to know if it’s something that I care about.

nickwitha_k,

There are a TON of standardized power connectors available that enable compatibility with off-the-shelf parts. Seriously, just look on Mouser or DigiKey. The only reason for proprietary connectors in this case is to try to obtain vendor lock-in.

nickwitha_k,

But I also don’t see a way forward for the state of Israel without the destruction of Hamas, because otherwise we will just repeat this in a few years, and I don’t think Hamas will stop attacking us even if we are sanctioned by most of the world (I also fear that in such a scenario, a government might rise to power in Israel which is much more extreme than even now).

The only real solution that doesn’t involve genocide is ensuring that Palestinians are happy, healthy, and have the opportunity to thrive. Terrorist groups like Hamas don’t just poof into existence. It takes a mix of desperation, grief, and hopelessness (and sometimes megalomania) to reach that point. Groups like that can’t be defeated or destroyed with bombs and missiles. Inflicting more pain and suffering creates more desperate, hopeless people who don’t feel like they have anything to live for or chance at living a good life. If the IDF kills every member of Hamas in this war, another group will rise because of all of the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, friends, and family that have lost their lives as “collateral damage”.

If you want to halt Hamas and similar groups, your government needs to stop doing the recruiting efforts for them. Hell, with time, effort, and prosecuting those who perpetuate the violence, the Palestinian people could be allies.
