Maeve, in Is The US Headed Towards Fascism?

Of course not. We are already there with the illusion of liberties, if privileged enough.

It’s like a slow moving tide. People keep asking if there’s going to be a flood while walking around in waist deep water.

Arcturus, in Why Are Open Source Alternatives So Bad?

Love that they leave out Blender and Godot from the thumbnail lol

Also, Inkscape is great. Dunno why they’re complaining about it.

Evotech,

And VLC…

jlow,

Krita is also amazing.

Because they just want clicks and ad revenue… So capitalism. Check out today’s sponsor, NordVPN.

Clearly ragebait thumbnail, gimp is the only one that actually has an argument for being “bad”

jlow, in Why Are Open Source Alternatives So Bad?

Without having watched the video:

For me personally I think a big chunk of why FOSS alternatives seem “bad” is because you don’t know how to use them (yet). I spend decades of familiarising myself with all the horrendous fucking “quirks” and bad UX and other stuff of Adobe software and internalsing all that bullshit. When Inkscape had different “quirks” (= ways of doing things) of course it’s easy to dismiss it as “bad”.

And yes, some software that is mostly made by a bunch of volunteers for free can’t feature-compete with a multi-million company, surprise.

I think it would be more interesting to find out why Adobe software is still so abysmal after they’ve probably thrown hundreds of millions of dollars on it. I recently watched my brother work on a complex project with Premiere and it was almost non-functional, quite fascinating, actually.

LemmyQuest,

Peak headlines culture.

stembolts, (edited ) in Why Android is Simply Better Than iOS

TLDW, better cuz customizable, more privacy for power users, alternative operating systems.

More features sure, but if you value simplicity and dislike customization, apple is better.

It’s all subjective imo.

I like android but i understand apple’s design philosophy.

nokturne213,

I was a die-hard Android fan since I think froyo. But got tired of either having to find a device with an active custom ROM scene, or deal with my phone manufacturer abandoning my device’s updates after 18-24 months.

I had to get an iPad and MacBook for work and ended up replacing my Motorola Z4 with an iPhone 14 Pro last year. Other than 1 app I would like to give a custom notification, I have encountered no real issues.

And then Apple ships with Shortcuts, which can do a ton of stuff with pretty basic building blocks. It’s very un-Apple really.

I swear people’s brains disappear when they see a yellow light. “I’ll have to wait a full minute!? I better run this red light and risk a lifetime of pain and disability!”

korny,

Admittedly, the measures in place did not seem to work as intended. The light should have gone red before the truck had a chance to enter the intersection, and the sign should alert the driver that their truck is too large to go under the bridge. However, that doesn’t stop everyone: youtu.be/-VokezIMLKE

The description mentioned the pedestrian crossing somehow disrupted the warning lights.

Ransack, in How Mozilla Ruined Firefox.

Save yourself the time. Outdated video from 8 mo ago with a bunch of weak arguments. It’s comparable to what one could expect from a middle school essay.

LemmyQuest,

You did not counter his claims or proof that it’s wrong.

Ransack,

I don’t have to. You shared the video with nothing else. No call to action, no question(s), no concerns, nothing.

Why did you share this video? You thought this was a solid educational piece on FF didn’t you? That’s the only reason I can think of that fits requesting a counter. So no questions, no research, didn’t even browse the comments, just choked this video down and decided to pass it along. Hell you’re not the first person to run into and post this video, a quick search would show you multiple discussions on it.
