2,500 people contract measles in Kazakhstan in a week

2,500 people contracted measles in Kazakhstan last week. 342 new cases were recorded over the weekend, Orda.kz reports.

According to the National Center for Public Health, 22,000 cases of measles have been confirmed in the country since the beginning of the year, of which 80.5% are among children aged under 14.

More than 323,000 people have been vaccinated since the beginning of the vaccination campaign. More than 49,000 citizens were vaccinated on December 8-9.

Kazakhstan was among the top three countries in the world for measles incidence this year. According to the CDC, more than 23,000 cases of measles have been recorded in Yemen, almost 15,000 in India, and 12,985 in Kazakhstan. Preliminary data are based on monthly reports provided by WHO as of early November.
