Love my cast iron skillet. Often don’t take great care of it either and still does a pretty good job of being non stick. My wife doesn’t like how heavy it is though, so been planning to get a carbon steel or stainless steel one as well.
We're the same! When I first read about cast iron pans I thought they would be really hard to maintain and easy for it to go all really wrong. In reality you can basically just cook in them and they are good, just got to be careful of moisture.
The heaviness I can be can issue, but the overall positives outweigh (hah) that for me. Initially I also had a bad habit of grabbing the hot handle of the pan as I wasn't used to it!
I use my cast iron pans far more than anything else I own in the kitchen. Maintenance is easy, they are naturally nonstick (better when smooth imo), and hold heat far more consistently.
Same! I bought one for Christmas and it's now our most used pan in the kitchen. They do cook things better, onions and spices cook really nicely.
Also no where near as hard to maintain and season as I thought. Literally baked in the oven to dry, use oil to coat and then baked again, then it's basically good to go. What most people don't say is that just through use the oil you cook with also seasons.
It's more difficult than it should be to go zero waste, so often I encourage low waste versus the absolute zero waste life. But hopefully this video and community can help!
Agreed, don’t let perfection be the enemy of better. Best way is to start small and easy, try it for a while, then find some other way to improve. Lots of small incremental steps is much easier to maintain than large lifestyle changes.
Oh most definitely, and the best part is most safety razors and the razors themselves can be recycled practically anywhere, once you're done with them (whenever that day comes, these things seem to last forever).
Sounds like your already opting for a zero waste option to me! If you do decide to take it back up again this is a great swap, actually a better shave as well
Horrible idea. The drones don't popup out of nowhere. CPU, battery, memory, rotors, antenna, plastic and all the software chain. These are mountains of waste.
Recycle is the last part of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Recycling shouldn't be the primary thought in designing around plastic/other materials. The primary design goal should be to eliminate or minimize the amount used.
