As someone who does a significant amount of Motorsport photography, albeit at a smaller scale, this is a risk we’re all aware of. I don’t think any of us would trade it for the world either. Sometimes to get the shot, you’ve gotta put yourself in a bit of danger. Everyone did everything right here, Motorsport is just dangerous.
I did exactly this. I happened to wake up right before the start, turned it on, watched the crash, and by the time the race restarted I had fallen asleep and I never bothered watching the rest.
Just like your nose, stereoscopic (I think that’s the right word) vision will blur out things right in the middle of your view. It’s actually not very distracting at all and you tend to not notice it at all when driving (at least in VR in racing sims).
You also find yourself looking straight down the middle so infrequently that putting the supports to the side would actually block more of the view.
On a flat screen it’s entirely different since you’re only getting a single perspective instead of two different views. It’s one of the reasons VR can be really great in racing games such as iRacing.
I also turn off the halo when I’m playing on my triples. It’s only when I’m in VR that I’ll leave it on.
Money has been the issue since day 1 and anyone believing anything else has been burying their heads in the sand. A new team is not going to bring anymore meaningful revenue to the series. I think we can all agree on that. That means if a new team enters and is entitled to equal benefits, the payouts for all 10 other teams go down by 10%. That’s a non-insignificant amount of money that they’re in no way willing to give up.
I’d like to see Yuki given a 1 year with RBR just to see what would happen. Even if he’s a complete wash, he gets his chance to prove himself, he’s experienced enough it’s not just putting a rookie in the seat and it gives the 2nd RBR seat back to someone who came through their academy.
That being said, I almost expect 2 rookies at Torro Rosso next year. Lawson and whoever performs best in F2.
Any series that has independent development and no BoP is going to be uncompetitive at the front. Someone is always going to either spend more money or find a trick that sets them apart from the rest of the field.
Adding a BoP would kill the sport as we know it, and restricting development even more would be bad as well. F1 is the last true open development series. The rest all died for similar reasons.
Lightroom doesn’t work at all, needing either a reboot to launch windows or a VM that struggles with performance. OSS alternatives won’t really handle the size of libraries im working with from limited experience with them.
Multiple displays of different resolutions and refresh rates wouldn’t work properly (though I hear this one is becoming less of an issue with the new DE software)
It’s only easier than windows if you’re used to using and fixing Linux. Windows doesn’t require maintenance and troubleshooting for the most part. If something doesn’t work, you just restart and 99% of the time it does.
Gonna be honest, I prefer to be in an office over WFH, despite WFH technically having “advantages”.
Home is an awful environment to work in. I get less done, worse quality and in general dislike it more. While that’s technically a personal problem, it’s not fair to say no one would voluntarily work in an office 5 days a week. I do, and know multiple other people who do as well.
WFH when you’re just starting your career sucks. Both my internships and start of my FT jobs were WFH, and it made it near impossible to learn to work with a team, get information from senior developers, get IT help if there was hardware issues and a ton of other minor things that aren’t a problem for someone who had been working at the company prior to going 100% remote, but are huge sticking points for new hires.
When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...
Seriously. They had a completely open market, then essentially signed a perpetual deal where something like 40% of gross income is paid out to the labels. It’s absolutely insane how poorly run they were in the beginning.
If they had become a publisher, distributor and/or a label, they’d be on top of the world now.
[Tristan.OnTrack] “It is beginning to be said in the paddock that Miami will be Logan Sargeant’s last race. Williams has reportedly already asked the FIA for an exemption to allow Kimi Antonelli to drive for them from Imola onwards.”
They said this about Latifi too. Antonelli isn’t ready from what I’ve seen of him in F2. This may just accidentally stunt his career if he can’t keep up
To get the same resolution and quality of image in all lighting scenarios, cameras are actually going to be more expensive than LiDAR. Cameras suffer in low light, low contrast situations due to the physical limitations of bending light. More light = bigger lenses = higher cost, when LiDAR works better and is cheaper
I kinda get it. The start of this season has been brutal with every race overnight. I’m not even bothering watching this entire leg of the season because of the horrific start times for the US. When they were spread out over the calendar I’d usually stay up to watch, but with them all clumped I’m not even trying.
There is absolutely a need for an alternative. Just because you don’t think something is important doesn’t mean that others don’t. People aren’t just going to give up features that they expect because “they’re not a necessity” - it doesn’t matter if it’s a necessity. It’s the reason people still use the platform, and until something replaces it people will continue to use it.
People hate FOSS because the people around it are fully ready to condemn you for using anything but, and when you ask for alternatives they tell you that you don’t need an alternative cause your use-case is “not a necessity”
