Also, I hope everyone can appreciate how much I need to read up on plane operation just for this little chapter here.

With trembling hands, Miryam disengaged the brakes and steered the plane carefully to the runway, while outside they could see a crowd of zombies shuffling faster than they thought possible in their direction. For a moment, it looked like they would catch up with them, then the plane picked up speed, rushed down the tarmac with wind blowing at them through the smashed window. And then they took off.

Berlin, Pearl and Marisa all frantically rushed to the propellers of the small plane, giving them push after push while Miryam tried to remember what she could from flight school, turning on fuel to the engines, keeping the brakes engaged, wondering about the magnetos. Were they supposed to be on or off? When she was still hesitating, the engine sprang into motion and the girls outside let out a surprised yell. "Quick! Let's go!" Pearl squeaked as they climbed into the plane.

"It... it won't start without the key," Miryam said as she fumbled with the door lock through the window, managing to finally unlock it.

"Can't we just, like, turn those whirly things?" Pearl asked with a look at the propellers. "I've seen that on the tv, they just gave them a push and it went off."

Miryam opened her mouth as if to reply something, then stopped herself. "Alright, let's try," she said finally.

They doubled back to the small plane as fast as their legs would carry them. "They're coming!" Berlin yelled at Miryam and Marisa, who had stayed behind in the vain hope of still finding a way into the plane, somehow.

"Who's com..." Miryam began puzzled, when the pink-haired girl rushed up to the plane's door and began to smash the window with her wrench. It only took a few blows, and the glass broke.

"In!" Berlin screamed, waving at them. "Everybody in!"

In the end, none of that mattered. When Berlin and Pearl got close to the airport, always on the lookout for anyone who looked like a mechanic, the crowd around the building noticed them. Within moments, dozens of zombified travellers were clamouring to get through doors and windows and after the girls. "Shit," Berlin hissed when the commotion spread like a wildfire. "Run!"

"Tha's right!" Pearl agreed. "What she said!" Her eyes already darted around, looking for the elusive zombie mechanic who stood between her and the most exciting flight of her life.

"And even... and even if you find this... this person," Marisa continued, "then what? How are you going to get those keys?"

Berlin's eyes fell on a rack of tools inside the hangar, where she fixated on a particularly large wrench. "We'll see," she said.

"That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!" Pearl yelled excitedly.

"No, this is dangerous!" Marisa objected loudly. "You can't really think about going in there! M-my... the crew... they..."

"It might not be that dangerous," Berlin replied. "Let's think this through: Whoever moved the plane out here wasn't the owner, or they wouldn't have needed the backup key, right? So, it's a mechanic who was working on this plane. He might not even be in the building but somewhere around here!"

"Alright, fine," Berlin sighed. "Can't we just... fuel them?"

"With what?" Marisa asked, waving around at the empty airfield. "You got the keys to a fuel tanker? Even if, I don't know how we would operate one."

There was a moment of pause, while Berlin stared at the airport building with small shapes of zombies moving around it, while everyone else stared at her. Finally, she growled: "Alright, let's get keys from a zombie!"

"Well," she concluded with a determined edge to her voice, slamming her hands together as if to underscore her words. "Let's find a different plane here then!"

Miryam looked sceptically at the keys in her hands. "I mean," she said in a flat tone, "we might find quite a few, but they won't be fuelled up and ready to take off, if they're parked in here."

"What?" Berlin asked, taken aback.

"Planes need to be away from a building to get fuel," Marisa agreed. "Fire hazard."

Alright, well, one thing I can already show is that Soap Magic (a.k.a. The Soap Shop) is on Amazon - and others - in 5 installments so far: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMXWC7WD?binding=kindle_edition&ref_=ast_author_bsi

If you want it as a book and save money, you should wait until later this year. Hopefully in the second half, I'll publish it as a collected volume.

Oh, and also: All of them are also available as an audiobook!

As usual, the German translations of my books sold much better than the English versions, but reviews were... mixed. Someone described it as a "trip without the drugs".

Good , poultices and poultisettes!

So I haven't been entirely useless in the past few months and have been working on a few things that I'll link to in the near future. Sadly, things didn't progress at the deadlines I had set for myself, which is probably why I need to pace myself more.

Thing is, I don't know how to do that. In the book I'm currently reading (-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laziness_Does_Not_Exist ) it says we can do about 4 hours of concentrated work per day.

I'm so screwed.

"Fuck!" Pearl hissed, trying hard not to scream from frustration. "Fuck, fuck, fuck. Fuck!"

"It's probably already prepared for take-off, which means someone must've taken the keys to move it out here," Miryam said, trying to figure out the situation. "Which means that..."

"...some zombie here has the keys," Berlin finished the thought with a grim expression.

Soon, the four of them stood by the plane that Miryam had picked out from a distance. It looked fine, even though only Miryam might have the knowledge to really judge its airworthiness. "It's locked," she remarked. "Sometimes... sometimes, there's a separate set of keys here somewhere, in case a plane needs to be moved and the owner's not around."

And she was right: Inside the hangar, they found a rack with several keys in them, none of which would fit the plane outside.

Hiding in here, in this grounded plane, was just playing for time, and time and provisions were running out. She had hoped there was help coming, but in the few days she had been holed up in here, all she ever saw way more and more zombies. What if they made their way out here to the plane? She shuddered from the thought.

"Get your stuff and come on then," the pink-haired girl urged her on.

"Let's gooo!" Pearl announced, running down the cabin back to the entrance.

"What? This is crazy!" Marisa said, her head spinning from all these new developments, only half of which she understood.

"You got a better plan?" Berlin asked her, already turning to leave.

The woman opened her mouth, then stopped herself. That girl was right, she thought. In a strange way, she was right.

"Your brother was flying a jet plane?" Marisa asked incredulously. "And they let you sit in at flight school?"

"No," Miryam replied, slightly discouraged. "Not that, not a plane like this. But like that." She pointed out of the window at a small propeller plane that was standing at the far end of the tarmac, next to a hangar.

"Are you serious?" Berlin asked, while Pearl already clapped her hands from excitement.

"I... I'm pretty sure," Miryam said semi-confidently.

"N-no, I can't," she mumbled painfully. "I'm just a stewardess, I don't... I don't know. And besides, this is just..."

"I might be able to fly us out." There was moment of silence as all eyes turned to Miryam, who had kept quiet so far. The sudden revelation had caught them all by surprise. "Well," she began to explain, blushing slightly under the unexpected attention, "my brother had all these flying lessons and I've been sitting in on them a lot and..."

"We're the rescue team!" the naked girl blurted enthusiastically.

"Never mind that," the girl with the pink hair next to her interrupted. "We need to get out of here and..."

"...and we want to fly!" her naked companion continued excitedly. "Can you fly us?"

Marisa groaned and held her head. Something about these voices was just too loud and too fast and too... much. Much too much.

"We were wondering if you can fly this plane," Pearl burst out, breaking the awkward stares.

"Uhhh... what?" Marisa asked again, hesitantly. "Who are you people?" It was almost more than her brain could handle, especially being hungover like this. The world had turned into a crazy place the last few days, and this bizarre situation made it even crazier. Why are there three girls here? How did they even get here? And why the fuck is that one...

Good , sweeties and sweetettes!

So, I've been away for a bit, and without going into too much detail: I've spent the past few months more time in hospitals (both on my own account as on my partner's) than I really care to. Still, things are looking up, and so I'm trying cautiously to get my life back in order (lol) and to get back to what I was doing here before.

Onwards and onwards.
