RightHandOfIkaros,

Why buy the digital one when you can get the one with a disk drive that has double the storage space?

1tb all digital and 2tb with disk drive doesn’t really make much sense to me if they are trying to go all digital. Why incentivize people to buy the one with a disk drive like that?

RightHandOfIkaros,

This game looks better every time they show it. Initially I was very worried when they talked about the dreaded project killing words “made for a modern audience,” but it appears this is going to be alright.

RightHandOfIkaros,

This looked interesting visually, and they probably blew their entire budget on the soundtrack, but as a marketing video it was pretty bad. It didn’t clearly communicate what kind of game it is, or how I play it. Is it an RPG? A point and click adventure? A free roam story game? I don’t know because this trailer didn’t tell me.

RightHandOfIkaros,

It looks like theyre not only using elements from the N64 original, but elements from Perfect Dark Zero as well, which wasn’t the worst game ever but it wasn’t a masterpiece.

Perfect Dark was always like the woman-led version of James Bond with a high science fiction flavoring. It doesn’t seem to stray too far IMO.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Only from the parkour though. Literally nothing else felt like ME.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I hate that it looks so good without Kojimas involvment. Then again, its a remake and everything needed is already there.

RightHandOfIkaros,

It does, and I am happy for that. I wish more remakes would be close to remasters like this.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I hope this sells well in Japan. Maybe we can get more.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I loved Starfield, and I am happy to see theyre still working on it.

RightHandOfIkaros,

If I was a millionaire I would shift my priorities to flooding Nintendo with frivolous lawsuits. Hit em with a bit of their own tactics.

Its going to be a Bloober game. Mid at best, with an inconsistet framerate, and there will be changes to the narrative, whether obvious or subtle through voice acting that will show they entirely missed the point of the original.

They’ve shown so many changes that it makes me think why they didn’t just make an entirely new game? It plays nothing like the original, looks only kinda like the original (except Angela doesn’t, and neither does Maria, Laura does a little bit I guess, but they haven’t even shown Eddie a single time and that has me worried), like, just make something new? The original was literally almost perfect. Yes, it had bugs, yes there were minor QoL things that could have changed, but Bloober has shown a lot of completely unnecessary changes.

This remake is trying to replace the original. Yes, you can buy literally the worst version of the original with the HD ports, or you can pirate the game or buy used copies for prices that I would call theft, but Konami and Bloober are purporting that the remake, for all intents and purposes, is designed to replace the original.

It won’t. It can’t. It will not be better.

I want Silent Hill to succeed, I really do. But to the people thinking Bloober can somehow do it better than the original team: No, they can’t. The closest they can even get to the original is equal, and from what they’ve shown it won’t be equal. This looks like its going to be Silent Hill Homecoming 2. I can’t believe I am saying this but Gans’ movie looks more faithful to the original than the remake.

Bloober of all teams remaking this was a mistake. The SH fan in me on one hand wants this yo be successful and make money so we get more Silent Hill, but the other part wants this to fail because this isn’t the Silent Hill I want to be seeing for the next 20 years after the normies eat up the slop like they eat up nearly everything these days.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Its not impossible to meet expectations. The problem is all these new people coming in wanting to add their own mark to the game. I don’t want any of that. I would prefer the Metroid Prime Remastered treatment, but because Konami lost the final version of the SH2 source code, we cannot have that. We have to get a remake.

And fine, if the new people want to add their own mark, I am happy to try that out as a separate mode. But try to make a very faithful recreation 1:1 first. This way the original can be preserved in as close to possible its original way with improved graphics, lighting, fidelity, and minor QoL changes such as bugfixes or faster load times.

I wish the game.was more faithful to the original, and that Bloober wasn’t behind it. As it stands, it will not hold a candle to the original, where it easily could have if they did it properly.

Nothing really got me excited. I have some interest in Civ 7 (if they don’t make it like Civ 6), as well as that Spanish Inquisition themed souls like that ThePruld is working on. But I am not particularly excited.

RightHandOfIkaros,

When I first saw this I thought: this just looks like Bloodborne but Spanish Inquisition. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I look forward to playing this, the only thing I wasn’t a fan of in the original.is that saving needed a consumable potion.

RightHandOfIkaros,

What’s weird is I liked when Resident Evil still needed Ink Ribbons to save your game. But something about it in Kingdom Come just doesn’t jive with me.

RightHandOfIkaros,

The AI translation argument wasn’t really about whether nor not it would work, it was people voicing their frustration at Western Localizers making large alterations to apply their own personal culture and politics to a work that did not originally have that.

And honestly, I would prefer grammatically inaccurate machine translations over “localized” translations that deviate significantly from the original.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Yes, but if you don’t have a PC, or one even remotely good enough, that cost is all up front.

Either way, you end up spending more on PC hardware than console hardware. For the price and for a person that isnt an enthusiast, they really don’t have a need to go to PC, when console does everything they want.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I mean, technically every game can be free on PC. But overall anyone that has a gaming PC and a console will definitely be spending more on the PC, unless they are given PC parta for free or something.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Ah, so true. How could I have overlooked this?

RightHandOfIkaros,

Square isn’t owned by Sony. But it doesn’t matter if Xbox removes any reason to even buy their hardware.

Sony is definitely not putting Spiderman, Bloodborne/DeSouls, Helldivers 2, Horizon, God of War, etc on Xbox. They will probably end up bankrupt before they even consider it.

RightHandOfIkaros,

The kids? Boomer? How old are you, 13? Halo couldn’t possibly be for “boomers,” I doubt many boomers actually know what Halo even is.

Regardless, my point remains. Xbox would be killing their hardware completely if they remove their only reasons that people buy Xbox. For many people, myself included, Halo is why I bought Xbox in 2001 and still to this day. If PlayStation has Xbox’s biggest IPs, what’s even the point of buying Xbox hardware anymore? Sony won’t put their exclusives on Xbox.

So when everyone goes to buy a game console their only choice is PlayStation. And with no real competition in the console market (no, Nintendo is not competing with their mid-range Android phone hardware), Sony can do the PS3 launch pricing all over again. And there is no competition to lower prices for consumers.

RightHandOfIkaros,

I hate to break it to you and everyone else on Lemmy, but you gotta rip the Band-aid off.

It will never be the year of Linux.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Perhaps xbox’s issue is that most of their biggest ips (including the ones they acquired) are 2 decades old

Nintendo’s biggest IP, Mario, is at least 4 decades old, what’s your point? How is the age of an IP an issue?
