Don't forget the clocks go forward an hour tonight (amp.abc.net.au)
Or, for those boring old manual clocks, you will have to put them forward an hour yourself. Alternatively, feel free to save time now and manually add an hour in your head every time you check the time, then after a few weeks get around to actually changing them, then spend a few weeks confused about whether you changed them or...
Daily Random Thread: Hump Day edition 14 June 2023
Is is still hump day if Monday is a public holiday?
What are you looking for from your Melbourne community? (aussie.zone)
Welcome everyone to our new Melbourne-flavoured slice of the internet! I am RustyRaven one of the moderators of this community (AKA BrightFadedDog). Plans for Parliament Station to become much more fun! (aussie.zone)
Would we like a weekly garden discussion thread? (aussie.zone)
I would like a place I can talk about the random happenings in my garden that don’t justify a stand alone post. Exciting things like my tomato plant finally growing, or the sadness that my snow peas seem to be dying off prematurely....
Open House Melbourne weekend - 29 & 30 July (openhousemelbourne.org)

After more than 50 swift-water rescues in Victoria this week, why do people keep driving into floods? - ABC News (www.abc.net.au)
What's on this week? (aussie.zone)
I had intented to go to Lightscape last night, but completely forgot about it! It finishes this Sunday, so anyone still wanting to go, this is your last chance....
Victoria has a State Emblem for any occasion (aussie.zone)
I knew about common heath, helmeted honeyeater and Leadbeater's possum as state emblems, but there are apparently lots more. I'm not sure why we need so many, but we also have a state fossil, a state mineral, a state marine animal and a state tartan!...
What do you do in your garden in the coldest months? (aussie.zone)
With the weather so cold in Melbourne at this time of year I am really struggling to get anything done in the garden. I’m trying to keep on top of the weeding and do a bit of planting and harvesting in the vegetable garden, but mostly I’m just huddling inside and dreaming of Spring!...
Plastic Free July – Be Part of the Plastic Pollution Solution (www.plasticfreejuly.org)
This is a great time to learn more about how to reduce your personal plastic use. Many local councils are putting on events & workshops - mine has programs for schools, online forums and workshops on making re-useable produce bags, as well as ongoing workshops on compost and food waste reduction.

Melbourne@Aussie.Zone Community Guidelines
What is this community about?...
What's on this week? (aussie.zone)
I’m thinking about doing a regular weekly thread (if there is enough interest) to talk about our plans for the weekend and week ahead, as well as talking about what you have actually done. So if you have plans you want to share, are looking for ideas or venues, or want to review somewhere you have been, this is the place to do...

How to handle Australia’s ‘plague’ of cabbage-chomping moths | Australia news | The Guardian (amp.theguardian.com)
I’ve certainly had plenty of these butterflies around my place. I’m hoping that there are enough predatory insects built up from snacking on my aphids that will cross over to butterfly larvae.
Victorian Labor MP quits parliamentary party over assault allegations, Premier Daniel Andrews says (www.abc.net.au)
FFS surely the Labor Party can find better candidates than this. It’s often said that no one who wants to be a polititian is a good choice. Maybe we need to stop having willing candidates for parliament and have a compulsory system where we can nominate and vote for anyone, whether they actually want to be a polititian or not.
What sort of low/no cost activities do you do?
I enjoy doing outdoor activities like visiting parks, but it is a bit cold for that at the moment. A lot of indoor activities get pretty expensive, but I have in the past found a few free building tours and similar which are really good....
Victorian police warn drivers of speed cameras as part of wide-ranging industrial action (www.abc.net.au)
