After season 11, I’m not so sure it is 😢

Shadow,

Unfortunately yes. The last episode of the season was ok IIRC, but the rest were just garbage. It was really disappointing after being so excited they were back.

I’ll post a longer reply later when I have time, but I agree with you.

I don’t think his posts are Russian troll farm style, they’re just not anti russian. I personally am strongly anti censorship, and would rather people engage in discussion instead of just being “ban this community cause I don’t agree with them”. If that’s the way someone feels, they can block at the account level. I don’t want lemmy.ca to turn into yet another echo chamber, we all win when diverse ideas and opinions come together.

Sidebar rules are something we’re talking about now as a result of this, I think the “no misinfornation” rule is a good idea but I worry about how difficult it may be to implement.

I didn’t see any misinformation in the geopolitics community when I looked, but if I missed something then please feel free to flag it to me.

Some random thoughts on this for a second…

Is lemmy.ca a community? Or is it just a grouping of communities?

Is lemmy.ca the community or is it all of federated lemmyverse that’s the community?

I would lean towards all of lemmy being the community, since a users likely lean towards browsing all rather than local. I know the regular users I interact with are global, not just our users. They all contribute to the sense of community in a larger sense than just our instance.

Given the community feeling is maybe not specific to an instance, does every /c/ needs to contribute to that specific instances sense of community?

Ugh, thanks for the heads up! Hadn’t seen those.

I’m going to do the pictrs upgrade, but maybe hold off on lemmy itself for the moment.

Shadow,

First I’ve heard of that, might be a photon bug. Can you try it on the normal web interface once things are back up?

I just bumped it to the latest version, try now?

Same for Samsung afaik. Pop into the bootloader and just wipe everything.

Yeah I’d love if we could customize the default feed for our users, but lemmy today doesn’t have any functionality like that.

TIL about a Fiat Ad that sent out some 50,000 anonymous love letters to young women. Women felt stalked and locked themselves in their apartments. (nowiknow.com)

The notes Fiat sent out were part of a marketing campaign to introduce the Cinquecento to Spanish consumers — the plan was to prime demand with the request “for a couple of minutes [together]” and then, four to six days later, follow up with a letter explaining that the note was from the car company with an invitation for...

Eh, more like average.

Bonus fact: Fiat, apparently, didn’t learn its lesson from the 1994 stalker note debacle — at least not immediately, or, perhaps, not internationally. In 2016, Fiat Argentina gave new car owners “a car manual which refers to women as ‘co-pilots’ and men as ‘alpha males’” while also “featur[ing] comments on women’s legs and the length of their skirts,” according to the BBC.

SMB, FTP, or NFS for NAS + server?

I am running a NAS that needs to connect to a server (the NAS isn’t powerful enough). I also need to connect my NAS to a Windows, Mac, and Linux device (Linux being the most important, then Mac, then Windows). Out of SMB, FTP, and NFS, which one would be the best, quickest, and most secure for my situation? My NAS supports...

SMB.

The windows nfs implementation sucks, but everything talks SMB.

Is there any way to disable audio by default when auto-expand is on?

I’ve noticed recently that as I’m paging through lemmy in firefox if a video is posted it will start auto-playing with the volume maxed. I don’t mind it autoplaying before I get there but it’s very annoying to have a page load and suddenly getting blasted with unexpected sound....

Unfortunately nothing on the lemmy side.

Audio output jack does nothing, only bluetooth works (Windows 11)

Ever since I installed an SSD and fixed my monitor, all forms of audio stopped working in my computer except for bluetooth devices. I’ve tried everything you can find with searching “site:reddit.com” but I’ve found nothing helpful. Please help, I’ll try to answer any questions for more information.

Boot a Linux cd and try it in that, rule our software first.

Is it actually extruding? Sounds like it might be slipping / grinding. Is your hot end plugged? Can you push filament through manually?

Edit: never mind, watched it again and can see the filament moving. I’m with the other guy on this, is it even your extruder?

[Request] Components/Tools List for DIY, analog 'Beginner Electronics' Kit?

I’m new to electronics and looking to assemble an array of components and tools for working on and designing electronics & circuits. Something immediately apparent is that all of the widely available kits orient you towards working with microcontrollers and SBCs; these kits are cool, but I want to have a halfway decent...

For a desk power supply I highly recommend these.

You’ll need a higher voltage PSU to put in front. I recommend meanwell.

You might find our census interesting. Hopefully it’s more representative of general lemmy than hexbear.

I’m happy to export your data for you from the database if you want it, but I don’t have an easy way to do that beyond writing queries by hand for each table. Is there some subset specifically that you’re looking for?

We don’t log any IP addresses except web server access logs temporarily, and we can’t identify which log entries are which users. There’s no login history in the DB, it doesn’t even log the last login for a user.

If you’re willing to write the queries for the data you want, I don’t mind reviewing them and then giving you the output.
