Facebook is claiming our video show and tell where people share art, electronics, modified wheelchairs, and other projects, is hate speech now. There was no option to have it reviewed only to "agree" so no one sees it.

Desktop portable Stargate 🌌🛸💡

Always liked the episode of SG-1 when Orlin made a mini Stargate using various parts ordered online and from Major Samantha Carter's toaster. This one at least fits in our apartment, all part of the round LCD work we are doing with the ESP32-S3.

we recently sold out of our stock of Bus Pirates https://github.com/BusPirate/Bus_Pirate and when we booked a reorder we found it's currently unavailable with no ETA for re-stocking. it made us think about revisiting this design, perhaps using an RP2040 instead:

Coming soon - hippity hoppity here comes a floppity 💾 🐇

We had a quest to do some floppy projects back in 2022 (https://blog.adafruit.com/2022/02/09/refactor-of-adafruit_floppy-for-timer-support-mac-disk-success/) but our eyes were bigger than our BOM - many components we designed into this floppy interface board were not available... but now we're back and it's time to make the bestest floppy archiver/writer/emulator(?)

PCB of the Day! Adafruit AMG8833 IR Thermal Camera Breakout - STEMMA QT 🔥📸🔌

Add heat-vision to your project with an Adafruit AMG8833 Grid-EYE Breakout! This sensor from Panasonic is an 8x8 array of IR thermal sensors. When connected to your microcontroller (or raspberry Pi) it will return an array of 64 individual infrared temperature readings over I2C. It's like those fancy thermal cameras, but compact and simple enough for easy integration.

3D printed "Talking Computer" from Star Trek, Kzinti props! 🖖🐱🔧

Episode 14 of Star Trek: The Animated Series was notable for its crossover with episode writer Larry Niven’s Known Space universe. The show’s depiction of his Kzinti species — bloodthirsty, warlike humanoid cats — was hard to take seriously with their pink space unitards (the director, it was later learned, was color blind).

PCB of the day! Requiem for a 5.1K CC resistor 🔌💡🔧

We have a few gadgets around the house that, despite having a USB type C connector, do not abide by the USB C power delivery specification! They leave off or mis-connect the two 5.1K resistors required to tell a USB PD wall adapter that they want 5V 1A power, a common issue because the devices work fine with a USB A to C cable, and only Macbooks seem picky about this stuff: cheap power supplies blast 5V and call it a day.

So many cool displays to explore! ✨ 🖥️ 🤩

Round, square, bar, cap touch...we're ready to dive into some fun display shapes with a Raspberry Pi / CM4 or ESP32-S3 as the driver. these displays used to be really expensive or hard to get but thanks to the dropping TFT and chip prices they're finally reasonable for us to try out! we cant wait to get these blinking. stay tuned for some pixelated fun!

Chonkiest ESP32-S3 Metro is pulling into the station and it is piled high with PSRAM 🚂💾🔌

This ESP32-S3 metro brings the chonk, with 16 MB of Flash and 8 MB of PSRAM - that's the max you can get in the WROOM module https://www.digikey.com/short/p2zm3v0r . but we think it's worth it's weight in gold cause when we start messing around with the parallel TTL TFT (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1596) driver we're gonna need that space to buffer the full 16 bit 800x480 display...

It's Bill Gross's keyboard, an American investor, and Pacific Investment Management Co. (PIMCO) co-founder. This retro keyboard artifact (sorta?) from his professional days, a Bloomberg terminal keyboard, is showcased in the Smithsonian's "American Enterprise" exhibition at the National Museum of American History.

swirly grid for mounting prototype boards

with most of our dev boards, sensors and feathers now sporting plug-and-play stemma QT ports (https://learn.adafruit.com/search?q=stemma%2520qt) it can be very fast to put together projects with half a dozen boards snapped together. But now you don't have a breadboard as a mechanical substrate...

ICN6211 & TFT display hacking debugging

yesterday we had the square 4" 720x720 TFT display (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5794) working with our Raspberry Pi DTO + ICN6211 configuration. now we want to move onto a round screen. one thing that was kinda nice about that screen is it does not require an SPI init code - it pops up immediately into RGB TTL mode. all our other screens require configuration.

double your pleasure, double your fun, with double-proto-picobell

yesterday we made a single picobell prototyping underplate: plug your rp2040 pico into the double-headers to get a quick prototyping area plus labeled pins, stemma QT and a reset button. great for when you want to use our prototyping picobell (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5200), but want to go solder free. its a great match for the pre-soldered-header version of the Pico H (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5525) and Pico W H (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5544)
