bird,

Mouse would escape the tape and stick its head through the ring. Then you have an invisible mouse to rule them all to deal with. The whole of Middle Earth would be absolutely overrun with mice

bird,

Yeah I don’t think they’re expecting that he be moving the needle as far as minutes played and making an impact on games. I’m sure he’ll see some minutes here and there, but I wouldn’t expect him to be an integral part of the rotation.

I do think the main thought behind this may be more on the bench and locker room front. Danny won a championship under Nick Nurse, and he’s also close with many of the Sixers players.

bird,

So reddit is bad because you can’t break a subreddit’s rules without getting called out? Also, sarcasm with 0 context, especially in text form, should always be assumed that it will not be interpreted as sarcasm. That title alone in the subreddit could absolutely be considered clickbait.

bird,

That’s our secret, we’re always hurting.

Google Pixel 8 will get more OS updates with longer lifespan than Samsung (9to5google.com)

While the Pixel 6 ushered in three years of major Android OS version updates and an additional two for security patches, that’s still nowhere near the longevity of the iPhone. Google hopes to change that on the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro with noticeably more OS updates.

bird,

Pixel 6 ushered in three years? I did some searching and it looks like every Pixel all the way back to Pixel 1 received three full years of updates. Is it just the additional two years of security updates that’s new?

bird,

LOL I totally identify with this. I don’t remember upvoting, but it looks like I already did. Just un-upvoted and re-upvoted for good measure.

Kermit the frog catching major strays in this thread. Don’t do him dirty like that.

Sixers could use another center, we could trade Harden for KAT straight up, right?

[Pompey] It’s official. The NBA has fined James Harden $100,000 for public comments. (twitter.com)

The NBA announced today that Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden has been fined $100,000 by the NBA for public comments on August 14 and 17 indicating that he would not perform the services called for under his player contract unless traded to another team. The league’s investigation, which included an interview of Harden,...

bird,

He’s basically on Kyrie’s level now. Still a good player as he showed last season, but his trust level is through the floor. Can’t be trusted to perform under pressure, can’t be trusted to play on a contract he just opted into, makes trade demands not requests. And for they kind of money he’s expecting? Who wants that?

ETA: this is a dumb emotional take, but as a Sixers fan I’d rather have Kyrie at this point lol. I’m sure I would regret that though.

bird,

Yeah this is also one of the bigger fines I’ve seen coming from the league to a player. Biggest I’ve seen is Stoudamire getting fined $250k after he got arrested for the third time for marijuana possession.

bird,

This is a great solution! I was searching around a bit more and couldn’t find any other apps doing this. I think I’m going to just create a Keep note for each book I read, then I can use Google lens to scan the text and copy what I want into the note and add the page number for reference.

bird,

Yeah it’s just a little guy! The original knife I started with had a 10" blade and was terribly unbalanced. It also didn’t have a full tang so it would easily flex where the handle met the blade. So I essentially shortened the knife so that I could cut a proper tang out of a portion of the original blade.

I always hated how small paring knives are, so I really like this size for doing a lot of things I would normally use a paring knife for while still feeling nice to hold and being a bit more versatile.

bird,

It’s actually surprisingly easy! I’ve done it a few times for my other knives because my wife is morally opposed to having a knife block on the counter. So our knives go in the drawer each with a custom sheath to protect the blade.

All you need is two pieces of wood, each with at least one good flat face. You trace the knife on both sides of one of the pieces of wood. One tracing will be the inside of the sheath (the flat face if you’re not using s4s), the other tracing will be on the outside which you’ll use as a reference to shape the sheath. You then chisel or route where the knife will go, place the knife in it to make sure it fits properly. Glue the flattest face of the other board to the side you just routed. Once the glue is cured, use a belt sander to give the sheath the general shape you want, then orbital or hand sand to get it nice and smooth. Apply finish of choice, then you’re good to go.

bird,

I think fear is an important part of our development, and sanitizing children’s upbringings is rarely the best approach. I love when my child communicates that they’re afraid of something because that gives me an opportunity to guide them through how to encounter and process that fear, and how to continue functioning in life when fear is present (which is always for a lot of people).

Also, for kids who are scared of their closet or under their bed at night, if you remove those triggers I would be surprised if other triggers did not arise. It could easily turn into a never ending game of whack a mole.

bird,

Ah, this explains it. Thank you!

bird,

This is a very handy tool, thanks so much!

bird,

Pay for a seedbox and install Plex on it (something like whatbox.ca). You’ll have your own streaming service that you can add anything you want to, and it only costs as much as the seedbox. It will give you insularity so you don’t get ISP notices, you can access it from anywhere, it’s great.

From there it’s just finding where you want to get your torrents from and getting used to adding them to the torrent client on your seedbox.

bird,

Plex is truly great! I forgot to mention it streams music in addition to movies and tv. The Plex web app is not particularly fantastic for streaming music, but they have a separate app called Plexamp that is really great. So all in all you can use this setup to eliminate all your streaming subscriptions.
