I just found out today that my pawpaw gave up they keys to the tractor for his Florida panhandle farm at 105 years old. It was and still is a diversified farm, and my aunt is on the tractor now in her 70's. They are a testament to the south and the food that comes from it.
I think he gave them up on his own, and I don't expect he'll last too much longer now. 105 is a long time for anyone, much less a guy from the south. Mawmaw died 25 years ago maybe and she wasn't young. I know he hasn't been working the cattle in some time and the neighbor comes and feeds them, puts them in the lift and whatnot. I'm sure pawpaw is still directing though.
Ya'll it's March 3rd and I'm barbecuing in Pennsylvania today. We are truly up sh*t creek with this climate. Also, who the hell ate all the tri-tip? I can't find any within 90 miles of here.
It's Lent and so I went to the the local Italian place to pick up a grandma pie. They handed be a box of hot wings that had been made in error for free. They smell amayzing and it's just not fair that I have to wait until tomorrow to eat them.
@VikingChieftain
They forgot the Soviet years real fast. Farming is hard and it takes years to dial in your productivity. Big fast changes -> people go hungry. The climate is changing and then they want to add on more changes? They never learn a damn thing.
@eva_chaos@VikingChieftain for better or worse the regime seems to get this, and it seems likely they will spend enough of the oil exports on basic foodstuff to at least prevent food riots. the war exists to maintain the regime, not the other way round, which perversely makes it more robust than if they were an ideological bunch. 😒
@VikingChieftain
They abandoned a lot of it. I wonder if they are going to become Ukraine's top weapons supplier again now that Moscow Mike has taken the US out of the game.

Oh, oh, the z channels are absolutely the best for providing timely damage assessments, bless them. You know somebody is doing the Lord's work when Solovyov is mad. 🤣
Thank God these dogs can't call CPS. I'd be in front of a judge every time I didn't take them to the park in terrible weather, or give them the boiling water they beg me for.
It's been snowing nonstop since last night so I'm hanging out on the floor with a dogs and a big pile of blankets. Slowly but surely, I'm becoming a northerner.
@VikingChieftain
I'm at -5C. It's cold, but there's no wind for once so it's surprisingly ok.
I can't survive below -17. I did it once in Illinois and I would have to wear a heated space suit to not shake myself to death.
@VikingChieftain
That's very true. In some ways New Orleans winters are worse than here because of the wet wind that blows off the lake. It rarely freezes there, but it was miserable regardless.
The dogs are downright swampy. It's tough in the summer when the big dog wants to sleep in the bed.
So, this Chinese citizen joined the russian army and is now dying of rheumatic fever. There is no healthcare for him.
He's a raging *sshole, but I guess if there's any Chinese speaking person out there that might call the embassy on his behalf, you'd be a better person than I.
