Anyone know what Nunez xG vs goals scored is? From the eye test it doesn’t look too good. Richy has already scored more goals than him! #coys #mastodonfc

hallenbeck,

@paulk_

Nunez on 5 goals, 11.13 xG (+6.13)

Richarlison is 6 goals, 6.74 xG (+0.74)

Salah is 14 goals, 13.61 xG (-0.39)

Son, for comparison is on 12 goals, 7.47 xG (-4.53).

We've been spoiled for years having two of the most freakish of xG overperformers in Son and Kane.

Timo Werner was somewhere in the +9 range at Chelsea. Hopefully much less playing Angeball. 🤞

@spurs

hallenbeck,

@paulk_ I've heard from Liverpool fans he brings something else. “Chaos” is a word I've often heard. Hard one to quantify that. I think Udogie's dynamism might be a similar vibe. Numbers alone don't do the player justice. Could be wrong tho - I don't know much about Nunez tbf.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I am thinking of ditching the @spurs group. The service hasn't been updated for 10 months and it is a bit unreliable. I'm afraid it'll be abandoned at some point.

Instead I am thinking we could use popular alternative https://a.gup.pe/ which is much more actively maintained and seemingly more popular.

I've already created the new group here:

https://a.gup.pe/u/spurs (@spurs)

What do you think?

You can read more about groups and how they work here:

https://a.gup.pe/

https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/

A key benefit is that they are a bit more reliable than hashtags, especially if you're on a smaller server.

hallenbeck,

@spurs @spurs

@LouiseMF you had some trouble following the chirp group. Does the gup.pe one work for you?

I think @CoolerPseudonym you also had some problems with the chirp one, no?

You're welcome - but the pleasure is all mine. Just passing on interesting bits and bobs I have coming through in my curated feeds. Glad it's of some benefit are really proud of the small but cool community we're all building here. 👍😄

@spurs // A reminder of what Ange said back in November:

"One wrong character in your dressing room is a lot of problems. So I will always forsake the quality of a player for the right character. But when you're working at this level, and this is just my opinion, I know the fees we pay these days are ridiculous, but I don't think there's a lot of difference between the best quality and the next level. It's really small, but the character makes the big jump."

Also the article from Jack Pitt-Brooke earlier:

“There is a distinguished history of players – many of them better than Werner — who never looked themselves at Stamford Bridge: Andriy Shevchenko, Fernando Torres, Alexandre Pato, Radamel Falcao, Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku and so on. It should be acknowledged that most of these players arrived at Chelsea towards the end of their careers and Werner joined at 24.”

@spurs // Ali Gold on Emerson Royal

“Tottenham defender Emerson Royal believes that life as a centre-back could be something he takes to as his career progresses.”

I really like Royal. He's not the best in any area but he works so hard, is still young, improving, and such a good energy to have around the club. For me he was second best player against Burnley after Porro.

https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/tottenhams-emerson-royal-makes-prediction-28402859

hallenbeck,

@Jfrites

Ooo, spicy 🌶️ I like it 😁

Let me expand on this view a bit. Yes Royal has some howler moments and matches, and this naturally results in some confirmation bias focused on those times. E.g. against Brighton he was pretty dreadful. But overall, given what is being asked of him and that he's not a full time CB his overall ratings have been surprisingly good on average.

(Cont...)

@brndnpink @IanHill @spurs

hallenbeck,

@Jfrites

To put his performances over the last 5 games in context, here are some average ratings over those 5:

Udogie: 7.2
Royal: 7.2
Davies: 7.32
Porro: 7.56

Saliba: 6.88
Ben White: 6.98
Zincheko: 7.02
Magalhães: 7.44

So while he's not been stellar as a starting CB I think he has, overall, in terms of ratings and results, been an outstanding, versatile SQUAD player and a credit to the club. If only all squad players could hold the line so well when needed.

hallenbeck,

@SwellWines @spurs He reminds me a cross between Maddison and Johnson in the way he moves. A tricky, twisty speedster. But I do hope he's learned how to find the net. But then again, if the plan is for him to be an assist monster for the others, then his passing and pressing looks very good for that role. Looking forward to seeing him play for us.

A salient discussion given how Spurs are by far the most fouled team in the league and in light of the damage sustained to Maddison's ankles and Bentancur's brutal injuries (among others).

hallenbeck,

@AdamDavis @spurs It's the uneven application of the rules I find frustrating. I don't think individual players should get special treatment, but referees shouldn't let fouls go because it might interfere with the "flow" of the game. The longer term consequences in the form of injured players is far worse imo.
