this video was as stressful as setting up a printer myself, which made it not fun to watch

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@Zergling_man @sun Well it could be a funny thing to watch though.
Like disasters happening to people represents a lot of youtube videos.

@sun @Zergling_man Pretty happy with my brother laser printer but yeah, printers are quite hell.

Scanners meanwhile? Fuck them, I typically just use my photo camera instead.

@mangeurdenuage @Zergling_man @sun And FSFv2 would also have one job.

(Funnily the only reason printers are getting better is due to things the FSF would choke on)

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@Zergling_man @sun Oh yeah, the firmware of scanners is always hosed.

Also proprietary cartridges is yet another issue with inkjets but even with rechargeable ones (pro laser printers are btw) inkjets are high-maintenance horseshit which everyone should have stopped buying ~10 years ago.

@mangeurdenuage @Zergling_man @sun look up AirPrint® :P

i'm trying to find something for playing music on my sound system, from a rpi or similar
the more i look at things, the more i might just have a cmus in a detached tmux session

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@hypha Wouldn't mpd be a better option? (specially if you want controls over something like a smartphone where TTYs aren't great)

when you enable hardware acceleration the little 0's and 1's in your computer are actually sent through a tiny particle accelerator in your processor! they enjoy it a lot

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@chjara @lea Wait… so Steins;Gate using a 40" Tv + microwave as a pseudo-particule-accelerator wasn't bullshit?

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@chjara @lea And well I guess in real life you'd get a fuckton of weird computer bugs before you'd figure out it can send phone network e-mails to the past.

every time I mention Palestine in the DRW newsletter I get at least one (usually more) angry responses with a "why wont you stick to tech/privacy/security" vibe

surveillance and AI tech—fueled by data collection of Palestinians—are amplifying the genocide. Israel exports its tech around the world, 'battled-tested' on Palestinians. Israel has contracts with large data-extractive tech companies. these are privacy and security issues.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@floreani And I guess the ones about state surveillance in other contexts than Palestinian genocide didn't have those kinds of emails?

“Your API Shouldn’t Redirect HTTP to HTTPS” https://jviide.iki.fi/http-redirects

Don’t think there’s many fedi clients that connect over plain http and follow redirects, but it might be worth looking at fixing at the reverse proxy (e.g. nginx) level

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@mikoto @tk Reminds me that even WebFinger is restricted to HTTPS ( https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7033#section-9.1 ) and ActivityPub makes it a "should" ( https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#obj-id ) so production fediverse servers ought to work with only https.

@mikoto @tk Also might be good to remind in the article that SSL Stripping is a thing (after all everything in plaintext is editable).

    @wada Well technically I think that's somewhat true.
