lapislazuli,

Nice, bay rum is a scent I want to try sometime in the future. The handle on the Merkur Classic looks nice (hence the name, I suppose). My advice would to buy a Mühle D89 (closed comb) razor and a R41 head (open comb). So you get one handle and two different heads. Depending on where you live, they might also sell the D89 head separately. I don’t know if they sell separate heads for the Merkur.

Yeah, it is nice. In fact the Henson is how I got into wet shaving: I saw an ad on Facebook (back when I still used it). So I started googling and found an online shaving store. Got a very basic shaving set. Fast forward one year and I found they had the Henson available in another online store where I lived, and it was on sale. Bought it and fell in love. Next week I’ll be using the R89 for a change and then I’ll make a back to basics shave with the stuff that was in the beginner set.

Yep! I usually scoop out an almond-sized dollop and spread into the bowl. Speaking of almond, the soap smells like cherry kernels. When it comes to the volume of lather, I find it is better to have too much soap than too little. I usually end up with having to flush a lot of lather down the drain, but since I only shave 1-2 times a week, it’s not that bad.

lapislazuli,

That’ll work, too! 😀

lapislazuli,

Nice razor! Be sure to post the ‘after’ pics once you’ve cleaned it!

lapislazuli,

Found the page.

“Here is another story illustrating Louis’s extreme dread of death. It seems that, being so superstitious, he never failed to consult all the astrologers he could, although he sometimes amused himself by making their predictions fail if it lay in his power to do so. An astrologer once came to court and predicted things which so enraged the king that he angrily resolved to put this man to death. In his hypocritical way, however, he slyly remarked: “You pretend to be very clever, and to be able to foretell the fate of others. Now, tell me your own fate and how much longer you have to live.”

The astrologer, perceiving his design, cleverly replied: “I shall die just three days before your Majesty.” This shrewd answer actually saved the man’s life, for after such a prediction the king was very careful not to do anything which, by shortening the astrologer’s days, might perchance hasten his own end.”

EDIT: either this is the wrong bit or the title is indeed misleading.

lapislazuli,

Good job surviving this razor with the Nacets, then! I haven’t used them but according to charts I’ve seen, they’re quite sharp!

Haven’t used Arko either, but apparently you can really whip up a lather with it. I’d love to try it as it’s a classic, but I’ve made the conscious decision of not using animal products. I have the Proraso Green and White soaps which are vegan, and also the TFS Ciotola Rossa. TFS is nearly as cheap as Arko where I live. I also have the Goodfellas Smile Abysso, which is one of my fancier soaps.

How do you like the Pinaud?

lapislazuli,

Congrats on the good shave! So that we’re on the same page, I assume you mean a tub (and not a tube, tube would mean shaving cream) of Proraso? I think the soap (or croap) really might be softer than Arko, but I wouldn’t know. Also, I shave once per week, so soaps last a looong time for me. But I might try twice a week now, just to have something to post and also because getting through a longer beard does take a few extra passes.

I shaved with Proraso White yesterday. I tried face lathering, but it didn’t give me a satisfactory lather, because I did not load enough product so it was a rough shave even with the Henson. Half way through I realized I forgot to take a SOTD pic, but the shave was meh anyway. But this was my second time face lathering, so it’s to be expected. I might try the Pinaud. The Clubman scent is currently out of stock in the store that I order from, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

lapislazuli,

I’ll post a SOTD tomorrow. Been meaning to get a Proraso pre-shave as well. And thank you for creating the community!

lapislazuli,

Congrats, I hope it stays fixed! I can’t repair anything, but I support the movement in principle. I usually try to take good care of the things I own and buy things which with replaceable parts (think headphones) or things which are more ecological (think traditional wet shaving with a DE razor). Actually, come to think of it, I might try to repair my headphones. Something that can’t be replaced broke – part of the headband near the ear cups but I think I can fix it with tape.
