ltxrtquq,

If I’m reading this chart correctly, each penny is only 2.5% copper.

ltxrtquq,

Why is buying less automatically better than recycling the mountain of stuff anyone uses to live?

Why is it better to make a smaller mountain of trash rather than figure out what to do with that trash?

The point is that dealing with trash takes time and energy, and if you want to be efficient about it you’d try to make as little trash as possible so you don’t need to deal with it later. You might not see much of a benefit on an individual scale, but across an entire city it can make a huge difference.

If you’re still not getting it, just compare the EPA’s website for Reduce and Reuse versus Recycle

The most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. Making a new product emits greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and requires a lot of materials and energy - raw materials must be extracted from the earth, and the product must be fabricated then transported to wherever it will be sold. As a result, reduction and reuse are the most effective ways you can save natural resources, protect the environment and save money.

Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community, the economy, and the environment. Products should only be recycled if they cannot be reduced or reused. EPA promotes the waste management hierarchy, which ranks various waste management strategies from most to least environmentally preferred. The hierarchy prioritizes source reduction and the reuse of waste materials over recycling.

ltxrtquq,

So what does it mean for children on vegan and vegetarian diets?

This doesn’t mean every child who follows these diets is going to have these nutritional and health benefits or problems. And we also can’t say whether these problems will persist into adulthood.

But it does highlight potential risks which health practitioners and parents need to be aware of. And it’s a reminder to either find suitable replacements that align with the family’s diet philosophy, or prescribe supplements if a deficiency is diagnosed through a blood test.

In particular, parents and caregivers need to be careful their children are maintaining a good intake of protein from a variety of vegan sources (beans, lentils, nuts) and calcium (from calcium supplemented plant milks).

Whether you’re following a vegan, vegetarian or meat-eating diet, you still need to make sure the diet is balanced across all food groups.

I get it might not be easy, especially if you’re just starting out, but “hardest possible thing to do safely” seems like a stretch.

ltxrtquq,

While he could veto this resolution given the overwhelming support by Congress it would only cause a short term delay.

So why not do that then? Why not veto it and show he doesn’t want more weapons sent to Israel? If you’re so afraid of the inevitable “people will just vote for it anyways,” why not just roll over and let Trump have his second term?

ltxrtquq,

Project founder Thorsten Försterling tells us that the team is working on a track-installed machine that will be able to lift individual pods off of one rail and place them on the other (without passengers in them at the time), keeping them from all collecting at either end of the route.

Still sounds dumb to me. How much effort would it be to lay down a second track, rather than invent a gyroscope-balanced pod that can propel itself along a single railroad rail, along with a specialized machine to move it over to the other rail?

ltxrtquq,

I don’t know how to use this site. Samsung is a Korean company, so I look there, but I don’t see anything about samsung or phones. Clicking on “mach & elec” or “consumer goods” doesn’t seem to help either.

ltxrtquq,

It’s not like netflix is the only one that can offer that kind of service. You’ve still got gamefly, 3D Bluray Rental, cafedvd, redbox (if you’re fine with going to a kiosk), your public library, and probably others if you care to search for them.

Back up cameras are mandatory in the US, and apparently Automatic Emergency Braking will be mandatory starting in 2029, so you’ll be stuck with some sensors whether you like it or not.

But otherwise I agree that buttons and dials are better for controlling AC and radio than a touchscreen ever will be.

ltxrtquq,

Then why are you here, trying to start arguments?

ltxrtquq,

Check protondb.com if you want some idea before switching

ltxrtquq,

‘My personal health has declined to the point where I really need to start taking care of it. Throughout the entire project, we haven’t shared it with you, but I’ve been in and out of the doctor’s office.’

From the article. He was going to a doctor throughout the entire “experiment”.

ltxrtquq,

Where do you draw the line between the two though? When exactly does a useful idiot become a Russian agent?

ltxrtquq,

Do we know she took money from the Russians though? She’s the same person that promoted a jewish space laser conspiracy theory, I’m not sure it’s possible to underestimate her intelligence.

ltxrtquq,

And the top 10% owns 67% of all the wealth (I’m not seeing an option to show just the top 5%). Considering how many millions and billions of dollars they all own, it only makes sense that they’re also paying the most. Especially since they can easily afford it without lowering their standard of living.

ltxrtquq,

The graph is showing who pays the least as a percentage of family income. I really don’t think it’s disingenuous to be talking about tax rates as percentages rather than the total amounts paid.

The % shown makes it look like they’re not paying as much taxes as the rest of us.

That’s because proportionally, they are paying less. Millionaires and billionaires are paying taxes at a lower rate then everyone else, even though they have so much more disposable income.

I don’t know what your ideal version of talking about this would be, but these three facts, that the top 1% pay the least proportionally, the top 5% pay the most in absolute terms, and the top 10% control two thirds of all the wealth, are all related in a pretty basic way.

ltxrtquq,

Capital gains are profits from the sale of assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and antiques. Nine states (Arizona, Arkansas, Hawaiʻi, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Carolina, Vermont, and Wisconsin) provide income tax deductions or preferential rates for all long-term capital gains income. Other states—such as Connecticut, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Oklahoma—offer tax reductions for realized gains from certain assets located solely within state boundaries.[11] These tax subsidies disproportionately benefit high-income and high-wealth families and tend to worsen economic inequality across both economic and racial dimensions.

Oh man, if only the authors of the study had thought about capital gains taxes, then maybe the map above that’s only using income to divide the population would have been better somehow.

ltxrtquq,

Based on your response here, I don’t know what you were trying to say.

Wealthy people don’t pay income [tax] very much at all, their income is made via capital gains.

Also consumption based taxes are the primary [taxes the rich pay,] so the richer you are the less [taxes] this will be as a percent of your income.

I thought you were complaining about the authors of the study not considering capital gains taxes, but it wasn’t very clear.

ltxrtquq,

I think they’re referring to the 1953 coup that the CIA was definitely involved with, but I’m not too sure how involved the US was in the 1979 revolution. The US probably didn’t have much influence in that one considering how long the Iran hostage crisis lasted.

ltxrtquq,

Trying to send a message with your vote is not worth it

That’s like the entire point of voting though.

ltxrtquq,

weather.gov works fine, thanks

ltxrtquq,

If you’re in the US (as Obinice pointed out), type your zipcode in the box in the top left and you’ve got your hyper local forecast and any relevant warnings and watches. I don’t care for or want extra notifications, so that’s a bit of a blindspot for me.

Also, if you’re using firefox on android you can hit the 3 dots and “install” the zipcode specific forecast, which just gives you a shortcut to that page on your homescreen.

ltxrtquq,

Amazon does still sell digital music files, you just need to find the “digital music” section in Movies, Music and Games if that link doesn’t work for you.

But you’re right about google music, it got turned into youtube music and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t allow purchasing and downloads. I’d imagine apple also still lets you buy music, but I’ve never actually used them before and don’t plan to start now.
