The issue with an extension ls is it requires an install, getting everyone to install one extension is a hard task.

Yeah however for mass adoption this is a terrible idea, there is already the extra step to choose an instance versus a regular social media that is just one link and one button.

I know for people like you and I choosing an instance isn’t that big of a deal, nor is an extra extension (though i try to use as few as possible) but for a regular user it might cause issues.

In a “non-trekkie” though my nan loved it so I’ve seen a couple of the films, I know of The Borg, Q the holodeck (another I think most people at least understand the concept of) and pretty sure “This Motherfucker” is the federation or whatever they’re called.

Just downloaded it, loads of features, free and doesn’t have a premium option.

I was using Pocket Casts which locks few features behind a paywall and pushes it. I don’t really like having things in the UI that are locked by a paywall, it’s fine if the app has more features and an option somewhere to pay for them but don’t clutter my general day to day use with advertising.

Just going to mention, I never see ads directly from apple on my apple devices. As long as you’re inside Apple apps, there are no ads.

Outside sources like websites etc obviously may have adverts.

Hardly adverts to be honest, in fact you could argue the last one is actually a good practice rather than just not telling you and letting you be charged.

As for the first two you can turn notifications off.

Yeah I think that’s probably the best explanation, simple to pick up for new users yet still provides a good amount of power for advanced users without getting overly complex.

Only for installing and updating, it’s honestly not really feasible for instance plugins via a UI due to the configuration being inlined with the plugin declaration. It’s not too bad once you get used to it.
