lately I've been listening to an ASMR playlist to sleep. it works surprisingly well most of the time, and I've arranged it with people speaking at the beginning and stuff like soap cutting/crushing at the end. this is fine, except it's quite a long playlist, so I want you to imagine waking up at 2 AM and hearing a sort of rapid hushed clicking, arrhythmic, erratic, coming out of the pitch-dark surrounding you

having snakes in your office sometimes means you have to open the window in winter because someone didn't eat their food overnight and the room is heated to 24°C

@AmeliasBrain yeah, my fellow reptile-keepers are... and I cannot think of a nice way to say this... very often fucking morons, based on how many pictures I see of snakes in kitchens, with toddlers, around food...

I wear gloves while handling rodent feeders and while cleaning the snake cages, and I wash my hands after handling the snakes. basic hygiene.

@AmeliasBrain part of the reason I am not nice in this sense is that people who are responsible for these salmonella incursions are going to end up sabotaging the ability of people to keep any reptile as a pet. people like me, who've never been sick, will not be able to keep their beloved pets because of people like them, who own one ball python in a filthy enclosure and put it around their kids' necks for Facebook clout.

so, the dentist thing, the dentist thing. I was in the chair and the dentist says, we'll do the filling first. okay. finishes the filling, says I'm going to do a second filling. I'm not going to do the wisdom tooth extraction today, because it's too intense. we'll do it another day.

I took the day off work and bought special food and psyched myself up like crazy for this, but yeah, no, feel free to fuck me over

I kinda miss traveling despite being the world's worse traveler. I miss the feeling of early morning liminal spaces, when it's still dark, when the light is orange... when you're shivering with cold and excitement and everyone speaks in a hush and you bond over bad breakfast food.
