stanleytweedle,

It’s funny and all but jfc brevity is the soul of wit- that took way too long.

Ron DeSantis' new target in his 'war on woke'? Colors, apparently (www.msnbc.com)

As part of DeSantis’ “Freedom Summer” initiative, the state’s transportation secretary, Jared W. Perdue, announced earlier this month that bridges in the state will have no choice but to be illuminated in red, white and blue from Memorial Day through Labor Day....

Anyone: “Take a look, it’s in a book, the reading rainbow!”

Florida: “Put your hands behind your back.”

stanleytweedle,

Firefly may be for sale

“The parts are crap, but you put it together you got a Firefly. Thing’ll run forever they got a mechanic even half awake… Some people ain’t lookin’ for flash. She’s a good catch”

stanleytweedle,

Feel like there’s a Set Theory issue with this but I barely understand what little I can remember about it.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

Sounds great on paper but I’d have to know the details to give them any credit. Definitely heard of ‘Christian’ groups claiming to provide for 3rd world children that were outright fraud and\or actually abusive as fuck.

stanleytweedle,

Interesting variation on the rule “All regulations are written in blood”.

Average human is .062 cubic meters so if you ground up 200 bodies you could fit the slurry into 12.4 cubic meters.

I miss Leisure Suit Larry’s age verification. Didn’t work then either but at least you ended up learning some interesting trivia.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

It was an old ‘kings quest’ style adventure game featuring ‘adult’ content, though I don’t think it was much past PG-13 really. You had to answer a series of trivia questions to play that were supposed to be things only an adult would probably know. I remember some questions like “What is Havarti: Cheese, A Country, Species of Fish”.

stanleytweedle,

And according to you, can’t organize because Karen, who didn’t give a shit to begin with, will think protesters are annoying.

In this case it’s more about me, who does give a shit, thinking protesters are annoying and counterproductive.

The article doesn’t go into specifics about what ‘disruptions’ they want to cause but quotes MLK "to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue.”

Problem is this isn’t the civil rights movement and the motives and actors are entirely different. Literally everyone in the US uses petroleum, even the people protesting petroleum depend on petroleum to engage in their protests.

I’ll accept ‘creating a crisis’ to help people already in crisis gain the same rights I have. But a bunch of shitheads that probably use more gas than I do ‘creating a crisis’ that will solve nothing is going to make me an opponent of them even if I’m an ally of the general cause.

stanleytweedle,

However it gets clicks and then people talk about the climate crisis.

So it generates ad revenue for the media, helps sell whatever useless shit the ads are about, eats energy serving the content, and ‘gets people talking’ about something people are already constantly talking about. Sounds like a big win for the planet!

stanleytweedle,

Saying protesters also use petroleum is a bullshit point too.

Again “Literally everyone in the US uses petroleum, even the people protesting petroleum depend on petroleum to engage in their protests.” I guess you missed that was a point about the comparison to the civil rights movement. Civil rights protesters didn’t depend on actively violating civil rights. The whole MLK invocation is absurd.

In any case you should offer to do some outreach for their org. You seem to care more about feeling righteous than actually achieving the outcome you supposedly support. Seems like a good fit with this group.

stanleytweedle,

I’ve dedicated my career and significant time and expsne to this cause that I “supposedly support”.

I never doubt the bona fides of anonymous internet strangers ;) Sorry but when someone has to pull that out to make a point to another anonymous internet stranger it reeks of “need to win” desperation.

but I do so without shitting on others in the way you’ve chosen to.

except…

It’s got dumb Charlie Kirk “you criticize society but are a member of society, curious” energy.

Yeah you’ve got the high ground- lol. I called a hypothetical group ‘shitheads’ and you compare me directly to Charlie Kirk. No irony there.

But anyway keep up the great work- you’re winning hearts and minds for our ‘team’, friend ;)

stanleytweedle,

Are you talking to the version of me you made up in your head again? That is flattering but also intensely weird.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

Sounds like you two should hook up ;)

I wish you success in however you are planning to dedicate your resources to the cause. We’re on the same team friend.

Also not sure how your keen nose for condescension picked up my scent but missed that. I’m sure it has nothing to do with any general biases against people that say anything negative about abstract ‘protests’ against global issues.

Seriously though if you want to block the construction\demolition of something your community doesn’t want or stand between a group being oppressed and their oppressors I’ll be genuinely proud of you for it. But these performative, symbolic ‘disruptions’ for global issues are just plain silly.

stanleytweedle,

Who do you think is preventing you from criticizing whatever you want?

stanleytweedle, (edited )

He’s uninspiring

Such a weird statement to me. Why would anyone expect to be ‘inspired’ by a politician? They’re tools to represent your interests in government. If there’s someone running that does that better- vote for them. Really wish people could be more boring and practical about politics. All this emotional sentiment does no one any good.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

A US president is the elected executive and commander-in-chief of a democracy. I get that simple people need to follow ‘leaders’ but I thank goodness the US was built on the idea that we devote ourselves to institutions and offices, not the people we choose to temporarily occupy them. Inspire yourself to participate in democracy, don’t depend on ‘leaders’ for anything.

stanleytweedle,

I was just thinking the other day “I should just run Problem Steps Recorder 24/7 because why the fuck not?”

But thanks to MS’ bad idea implementation department I don’t have to!

stanleytweedle,

Drugs took the Quellcrist Falconer approach to war.

She named herself after a seaweed dries up in absence of water and seems like it’s dead, but, as soon as it gets even a drop of water again, it grows ten fold. That seems like a good analogy to how drugs prevailed.

stanleytweedle,

I’d become a magician and Prestige myself.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

How do you know they stole them? Might have been a fair exchange.

stanleytweedle, (edited )

Wow dude, that’s mask-off open prejudice. That guy’s response was articulate and thoughtful and you just replied with some KKK level bigotry.
