It’s not for everyone. And that’s ok.

Punk means thinking for yourself

@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

My recollection is that Visa did a $75 hold and MasterCard did $50 or vice versa. Then came really expensive gas and trucks with 40 gallon tanks, so they upped it significantly.

Absolutely.

I just picked up Fallout 2 at GOG for $2.49. There are so many games you can get for less than the price of a coffee. The best way to fight against these prices is to simply not buy.

I’m old enough to remember when Doom 64 for the N64 was $74.99. In today’s money that’s around $145.

I’m not saying that’s reasonable, I’m just saying it used to be a lot worse in the cartridge age.

Really the bank should know what they are, and they should say “we don’t accept these.”

stinerman, to nostupidquestions in Can a judge sue a defendant for slander/libel?
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

No it is not. You can appeal if the judge was biased before he was assigned the case. After he takes the case if he becomes “biased” because you called him names and defamed him…no. If you could, every defendant would try to piss off the judge so that they could win on appeal because s/he was biased during the trial.

stinerman, to aboringdystopia in "but- But- inflation go brrrr 🥺👉👈"
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

MIT used to have the Billion Prices Project which tried to determine inflation numbers independently of the government, but it no longer exists. My recollection is that it was generally close to the official numbers.

If you think the reported numbers are wrong, you have to give a reason why, backed with evidence. As much as it sucks when rent and food, etc. are more expensive, but those are only part of the number. Inflation encompasses everything and some goods/services are higher than the average number and some are lower. For instance, car insurance has gone up a ton, but apparently fuel oil has gone down (econofact.org/inflation-and-prices).

I think what people are (rightly) concerned about is that the necessities of life are higher than the official numbers (because those are an average of lots of things). This makes them think the real numbers are “wrong” based their specific situation rather than the country at large.

stinerman, to nostupidquestions in Can Trump still run for president now that he's a convicted felon?
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

We don’t have parliamentary supremacy. What we have is what we have. A rough equivalent is that (assuming you’re a UK citizen) the Lords could still veto bills and the Commons couldn’t force the issue.

stinerman, to nostupidquestions in Can Trump still run for president now that he's a convicted felon?
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

Yes. The “why” is that in 1787 it was unthinkable that a felon would be elected President by the Electoral College. The electors wouldn’t bother voting for a felon.
