@Vivaldi guys what the hell happened? UI elements suddenly changed...

@Vivaldi but you'll update them in your design, right? 🥲 I don't wike it.

I'm unable to login to my Gmail via the in-app browser...

I'm on Windows 11.

@thunderbird hi!
I went into the config editor as recommended, but the javascript.enabled property is set to true...

I don't know what else could be causing this...

Did they roll back the Quick Share update?

@Vivaldi I know this is too much work and a lot of problems surrounding this but...
Would it be difficult to work on your own browser engine? Or maybe support an existing alternative?

Like, I love your browser, but I do feel like maybe the Chromium framework is holding back y'all...
Maybe using the Firefox engine? Idk... Sounds like a lot of work for sure...

Are you a compact, two-level or accordion kind of person? 🤔

Tab Stacks have been with us for ages, but they're still 🔥.

@Vivaldi two-level is dope.

The only issue I'm currently facing is that the PiP popout pops out to the top left as opposed to the bottom right... And if I close and open the window, it doesn't remember the previous location. It remembers if I toggle PiP on/off but not if the window gets closed.

The Pixel Launcher is FINALLY preparing to add a toggle that lets you HIDE the At a Glance widget from the home screen. After the widget is hidden, the space underneath it is open to other apps/widgets!

This toggle is not visible yet in Android 14 QPR2 Beta 1, so I had to manually activate it!

thisisartman,
@thisisartman@mastodon.world avatar

@byteborg @MishaalRahman it's the default launcher for Pixel phones.

@byteborg @MishaalRahman
Hi!
I re-read your question...
I assume you're wondering why he's using Pixel Launcher when people can use 3rd party launchers, right?

Well, Google being Google, they haven't allowed 3rd party launchers to integrate the Recents menu and gesture navigation natively into them. As a result, the experience is almost always sub-par. And unless it's a Launcher3 launcher (based on Google's launcher framework), you can forget native integration.

Instagram has finally added a themed icon on Android! This is available in version 307.0.0.0.30.

Now the only app that's missing support for this in my "Social" folder is Facebook.

H/T Omar Tosca on Threads.

The reason for Android's Notification system being better than iOS, is solely due to the ability to turn off individual aspects of an application's notifications.

Google, the poor multi-billion dollar scrappy startup that maintains Android, made a payment app that has one notification setting, "Google Pay". So all the ads, promotions, everything.

3rd party apps like PhonePe & Paytm have a better system.

How do you manage to maintain this OS?

@gamermanh

This kind of promotion. Sure, it's not a frequent issue, but you're telling me you (Google) maintain an OS where everyone else has to behave a certain way, except you? I call bullshit.

@Justly0250 bro don't get me started on the Amazon app. I cannot handle that amount of rage.

The fact that they've made it infinitely more difficult to find the settings in-app is just infuriating.

Good luck finding anything in the in-app settings.

@danielfgom true that.
Android's status bar is actually functional.

The reason why Dynamic Island is so exciting to people is that finally, something informative is happening in the status bar 😂.

@pico you can control whether or not persistent notifications remain.

thisisartman,
@thisisartman@mastodon.world avatar

@soulfirethewolf I would actually love that.
The focus mode feature is the closest I've gotten to actually enjoying something similar. But it's barely anything.

thisisartman,
@thisisartman@mastodon.world avatar

@hiramfromthechi I'm not entirely sure... I remembered seeing something like that in the Developer options menu, but there isn't anything there...

If you're on Android 12, you do get to add a Camera and Microphone Quick Setting (QS) tile in the notification shade. You were already able to control the Location and NFC sensors through here...

Edit the QS layout and look for the Camera and Mic tile. They let you turn off the Camera and Mic access for apps. Same for the Location and NFC tiles.

I was once recommended a show by my friend, saying that it's "a beautiful story about the complicated and delicate dynamic between a father and his daughter."

He was talking about "Boku no Pico", and please do not look it up. 🫠

@literalgrill @anime when done right, such jokes are funny. Yosuga no Sora as an "artistic expression of how one embraces nostalgia when they return to their home town" was a funny suggestion.

BnP was not a funny joke. 😭

The revamped At a Glance widget that Google announced earlier this month is starting to roll out as well. I've heard from at least 3 users who have gotten it, though I don't see it on any of my own devices yet.

Let me know if you see the new widget!
