I'm pleased to report that my proposal has moved from "standby" to "scheduled" for Saturday, May 18th, 2024 at 4:15 p.m. The opportunity to present py5 at PyCon is a dream come true!

https://us.pycon.org/2024/schedule/presentation/167/

This, in addition to @villares 's py5 tutorial on Thursday the 16th:

https://us.pycon.org/2024/schedule/presentation/116/

If you will be at PyCon in Pittsburgh later this month, please come see both of us talk about the amazing things you can do with py5!

@py5coding my main interest in it came from the "straight skeleton" features: http://scikit-geometry.github.io/scikit-geometry/skeleton.html

I find the API a bit harder to use (I don't like the shapely docs much, but I'm getting used to the API I guess.)

In theory it has 3D stuff...and it has "rays" which I saw once in a library by Freya Holmer I tried unsuccessfully to port...

@py5coding looking carefully... not much development went on in the last 4 years. Even if it is a nice library, it could use more help, it might not be best for wider public use... Mac installation issues, it seems, limited to Python 3.9 I think, etc. on the other hand is very actively maintained.

@villares se você não conseguir se inscrever... Pode arriscar ir no primeiro dia e esperar um pouco pra ver se sobraram vagas..

@py5coding oh yeah, for arbitrary shapes, FTW! But my point-in-poly function using the ray-casting algorithm based on https://wrf.ecse.rpi.edu/Research/Short_Notes/pnpoly.html is quite nifty!

@ericof mas não era 128x128 o prompt? Eles mudaram?

villares,

@ericof @osantana sim o class mode... pode instanciar vários sketches

http://py5coding.org/content/py5_modes.html#class-mode

Usando run_sketch(block=False)

No MacOS rodar sem bloquear só nos Jupyter Notebook

@py5coding sure! https://github.com/villares/sketch-a-day/blob/main/2023/sketch_2023_08_20/sketch_2023_08_20.py

I'd like to try some SVG output, remember I sent you a 3D->SVG library once...? I want to see if I can make it work with trimesh meshes...
