This paper analyzes 57 million comments from 8.5 million editors across the 6 most active language editions of Wikipedia to study the potential impact of toxicity on editors’ behavior.

They find that toxic comments are consistently associated with reduced activity of editors (~ 0.5–2 active days per user) in the short term with a significantly increased risk of editors leaving the project.

I hope you like my new theme, its not a huge change from what I had, so I guess I have a preference ☺️

I love he shares what he learns in different roles: as a learner, teacher, organizer, creator, and person. πŸ™Œ

Do we have research that studies if collaborative development of scientific software can improve the sustainability of the code?

What about the quality, reliability, and reproducibility of the code?

Any pointers?

I really appreciate any help πŸ™‚

Calendly send me the summary of my year:

  • 64 meetings booked (but not all my meetings go through Calendly)
  • 60 minutes 1:1 is the most popular event type.
  • November is the busiest month, with 15 events.
  • Tuesday was the most popular day to meet.

Pinto et al. 2018 found that 53% of the respondents to their survey on how scientists develop software with R works alone, and 42% developed software within a team of two to five.

Do we have more update data on this topic? #rstats @rstats

I will be grateful for pointers πŸ™

Correcting Spanish subtitles generated by Anglo-Saxon software: there is not a single accent, umlaut, or anything like that.

Really, 'multilingue' doesnΒ΄t sound the same as 'multilingΓΌe'.

The two dots (Β¨) above the vowel make it sound.

In 'gue' the u has no sound. But it is a softer sound than 'ge'.

In 'gΓΌe' the u does sound.

These symbols have a specific use in the language, they are not for decoration.

/End of rant.

Yesterday a friend whom I love very much told me that when asked the question Maradona or Messi, the answer is neither.

And I forgive him because he is a very good friend.

For all the people who love soccer, here is one of the most beautiful soccer stories, read by one of the best story readers in Argentina.

In Spanish. Enjoy.

β€œMe van a tener que disculpar” by Eduardo Sacheri read by Alejandro Apo. Soccer reporter Victor Hugo Morales.

I enjoyed a lot to chat with Elecia @logicalelegance and Chris @stoneymonster on their podcast @embedded

We talked about many important topics for me, like teaching, communities, and localization for software developers.

They also asked important existential questions for Argentinians like Messi or Maradona. πŸ˜‰

Listen here: Dinosaurs, Pirates, Spaceships https://embedded.fm/episodes/465

While there, check the other episodes with very interesting people sharing what they do.

Something that R-Ladies and rOpenSci made me realize was possible:

Ask those who develop the packages and tools if they plan to do something (add a feature, fix a bug, etc) and have them answer you !!!!

Offer your help with that feature or bug, and get it accepted !!!
