Eh, I'm honetly not sure if it has shifted much. Due to the industry I'm in, I work with mostly folks of the opposite gender, so making "work friends" has been a similar experience over the last 20 years or so. I mean, it's not an intentionally undiverse group, but the type of work tends to attract a certain type of person.

Weirdly, I feel like this might a good thing (for me at least) as companionship with the same gender often feels more competitive for some reason. Whereas with the opposite gender after the initial "I'm not trying to date you", it's usually more of what I'd consider a friendship.

Also, unrelated, but holy crap - this thread was the first time I've realized I've been doing the same thing for 20 years. Time flies.
