It's exhausting dealing with entitled idiots who are too cheap to see how expensive their crappy bike actually is to own.

Seriously. So many people would be better off just buying a $1000 bike, but they'd rather hold on to their cheap crappy bike and pay $100s each year to tune/replace, etc all the cheap crappy parts, and then blame the mechanic when it falls out of tune a few weeks later.

And if you explain this too them they think you're some sort of conman who is trying to upsell them. I'm sorry your $100 craigslist/wal-mart special isn't holding up for you on a daily basis... but it was never going to ever do that. And it's your own damn fault for not buying a nicer bike or at least upgrading parts to a higher performance/tolerance level.

And no, I'm not a condescending jerk for recommending to you that you buy a new bike. Hell I will even tell you to go buy a used bike that is higher quality. But you don't want to hear that. You want to hear that it's my fault that our Tourney derailleur doesn't shift as smooth Ultegra. You want ot hear that your $100-300 piece of shit bike that id designed to be ridding 5 miles a year is a 'great bike for long rides and commuting and riding off-road'. Because apparently the bike industry is a 'conspiracy' that you are savvy too and your not 'one of those lyrca wearing weirdos'.

Buddy, nobody wants to see you in lycra. I do want to see you riding a safe and reliable bicycle however. Preferable with a robust rack that you can haul stuff in rather than using a overstuffed 30lb backpack.

BikingAlong,

So exhausting, these people put so little mental effort into understanding even the simplest concepts regarding their bikes. I'm so tired of people bringing me bikes falling apart and telling the service writer it just needs a brake adjustment, or whatever minor service. Then when I get it, it needs both hubs adjusted, both brakes adjusted, wheels trued, etc. "What do you mean? It rides fine"

They don't want to learn anything about cycling, and it kills me. They're really only hurting themselves, but it makes my job so much more taxing.
