Why did the Free Mason Lodges go through decline right at the same time the Catholic Church went through decline in the 1960's onward?

I recently heard an argument that the decline of the Catholic Church in the west was part of a broader social event and that Free Masons, an organization whose goals are quite different from the Catholic Church, also underwent the same type of decline at the same time.

Are these indeed related? If so, what's the reason?
