As the clock turned midnight from June 30 into July 1, the Cougars officially became a member of the Big 12 Conference. And just about any Coogs fan you ask will tell you that's a really good thing.
UH got boned when the SWC broke up, just like my Frogs. While SEC/B1G are what they are, the nuB12 is a nice conference, a huge step up in $$$ and visibility compared to the AAC, and we're somehow in a really good place even compared to the PAC and ACC.
Yeah, the ACC isn't as surprising to me, but to see the Pac-12 so brittle is crazy. We're in a pretty good spot. It's amazing that we are in a position not just to thrive, but to poach.
Yeah, I guess it counts to strike while the iron is hot, and it’s helpful to have schools where people actually like college football. No two ways about it, we’re going to be counting on at least some viewers who are like, “Longhorns game isn’t until 7, how’s TCU at Houston going?”
Definitely. I also think there is finally a bit more of an ability for Houston to actually capture the casual Houston market these days. We have the biggest alumni base in town, and people are a lot more cognizant about athletics than when we were in the SWC in the '90s. I don't think we'll ever capture minds in Houston like UT does with Austin, but we have some decent potential over time, and Houston is a massive market.
Oh, and I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to traveling up to Fort Worth for games. I love that town.
