I really like the idea of #HomeAutomation. However, the available software systems just do NOT do it for me. My smart thermostat has been blinking that it cannot connect to my wi-fi for weeks, my #HomeAssistant is out-of-date because updating it is painful, my Z-Wave adapter is currently not functioning properly because somehow the adapter stack can't talk to it, ...
@elb Does your HA stuff have some weird dependency? I update mine constantly and the only issue is that i have to reboot it some times after the update for stuff to show up.
@grimmy I've been running HASS for years, and I frequently have to change dependencies or configurations for zigbee, z-wave, various other integrations, ... Not every update, for sure, but ultra I read the update docs carefully, I'll be surprised a few times a year when an update is breaking or requires a lot of extra work. I therefore don't update automatically, which means update sessions take even longer to walk through the versions.
@grimmy My HASS has a fair number of integrations, but I feel like they're all the absolutely most popular kind: Matt, Zigbee, Z-Wave, etc. I do have a few tired to a particular product (CT thermostat, for example), and one of those died and never came back a couple of years ago, but missing it's stuff I'd expect to Just Work.
The father they go down deprecating and removing declarative configuration, the more trouble I have.
