Every time I see bricks/cobblestones used I am charmed, but they do this in Ottawa (Canada) and then when it gets chewed up by freeze/thaw cycles and snowploughs they “fix” it with patches of asphalt. Then it looks really charming 🙄
@alan@kkremitzki Now I’m wondering if any of those sections are being maintained as “heritage sites,” or they haven’t degraded enough to require repaving with asphalt or whatever.
@MichaelPorter@kkremitzki Some are definitely being maintained. That site points out a section that isn't. If you go to the east of that segment near Auburn, there's an old section covered with concrete in the middle of a farmer's field. What's really interesting about that segment is that the corner is clearly banked for speed!

(I used to teach HS physics, and one of the fun* things we used to do was calculate the optimum banking angle for a curve in a road)
