TheBadgerKing,

Mario Kart, auto assist mode is brilliant. My son started on this and it really got him into other games (currently playing paper Mario with me doing the battles and reading). The game is also huge with the expansion pass as well. Had my switch since day 1 with Mario Kart and still play it!

Elkenders,

Yeah I might investigate a few of the Lego games. They seem to have decent sale reductions too

Illbeinthekapuasuite,

Slime Rancher is what you’re looking for. Sure it has puzzles and a collection system, but it also allows you to just run around, see the areas, collect slimes AND it has a “peaceful” mode, or whatever they call it in this game.

  • Elkenders,

    Oooh great idea!

    heyfluxay,

Mario Kart 8 has an auto acceleration and steering assist mode that works great for the kiddos. My son was 5 when he started playing it and still loves it a year later. He just now is getting good at wandering around in Odyssey but avoids enemies.

Never tried it but there is a Paw Patrol game for Switch.

Maybe some of the Lego games as well? I know they have co op.

    Elkenders,

Yeah I have considered the paw patrol game but it looks a bit naff for the price. Which is to be expected I guess. Hadn’t thought about auto accelerate MK, that’s a great idea thank you.

    heyfluxay,

My son for a while would sit with me, I would drive and he would fire the items, which he really loved to do.

    gk99,

LEGO games and Minecraft (on Peaceful difficulty) would be pretty good I imagine.

If she's struggling to run and jump at the same time there is no way she's ready for first person camera controls like in minecraft.

Go 2d first! Can't do better than the first 3 Marios, DK Country, Super Mario World, Kirby, etc.

    Elkenders,

Though I love those and have tried, they’re way too difficult for her. She needs basically no peril basically running around and interactions at tops. Hopefully she’ll manage things like SMW in the next couple of years.

That makes sense. There has to be something oriented for kids who just want to run around the environment.

Mine is 1 y/o and I'm trying to show her mario, but right now she's just happy if she randomly presses the right button to make him move. lol

    Elkenders,

Haha yeah I did the same with mine. Right now she likes watching me play Mario Odyssey, mostly consisting of going to see peach or making sure he’s correctly dressed for the world we’re in.

    That's just adorable

    mtthwcmpbll,

Coop with my son was a huge benefit on the switch with those little controllers turned on their side. We started out around that time with Mario Odyssey where my he played as Cappy with its simplified controls and I moved us through the game as Mario. We also played Captain Toad Treasure Tracker because the controls were pretty simple and most of the time he could just practice running around, but there are definitely times you need both players to contribute and I’d end up “borrowing” his controller to get through things. As he got more comfortable moving and jumping, he played more Lego games on his own.

As a general rule for me, anything you can play with a single detached controller on its side was a good candidate because it meant the controls were generally simpler for a kid (or less experienced gamer in general) to manage.

    Elkenders,

Yeah this is great thanks. I tried mario kart with auto drive and steer and she had a good time. Would be good if I could fire the stuff for her. I’ll try with cappy she’ll probably love that.

I can’t recc any myself, but here you go!

Switch games for four year olds

    Elkenders,

I had googled but didn’t see that one, thanks. I wish some of these were a little cheaper!
