What are your favorite Nintendo Switch games?

We recently got a switch and love it! I've been sent back to my childhood and get to enjoy playing with my kids now. We've been playing the following. Looking to see what else might be out there too.

  • Mario Kart 8
  • Over Cooked 2
  • Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
h4milt0n,

I’d recommend Unravel 2, great little co-op game. First game we bought for our switch and have been enjoying it with my wife as well with the kids.

(And I think it might be on sale right now)

gchance92,

Botw/totk are 2 games I can just get lost into for hours and it feels like minutes.

Stardew Valley used to be one of my favorite games to play on my switch but when I discovered mods on pc I couldn't go back to playing the vanilla version.

I love something about everyone of the pokemon games (even the bad ones) but Let's go Pikachu/Eevee and Legends Arceus were so much fun to play with the newer game mechanics. I'd love to see more iterations of both series in the future.

I've really been having a lot of fun lately playing tetris on nso. Actually quite a few games are quite fun to play that are on there. But it's very frustrating how few games get added throughout the years it's been active.

or4n,

Not necessarily in order

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I got most of my playtime in Slay the Spire which is great for handheld

I can't believe I haven't seen Mario Odyssee in this thread!! It's amazing! I think it's a must-have for any Switch owner. Also, Super Mario 3D World is a lot of fun.

Also:

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is another must-have.
  • I really like the Mario + Rabbids series, too.
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is one of the best platformers out there, IMO.
  • Splatoon 3 is a blast, too. I don't think it has local multiplayer, sadly, but it's a lot of fun.
  • Pokkén Tournament is fun if you like fighting games. It's like Tekken, but you play as Pokémon.
  • Astral Chain is sweet. Idk how old your kids are or if they'd be into it, but it's a really fun action JRPG with a cool story for adults and older kids/teens.
Slyder,

I'm seeing a lot of my favorites on here already but one I haven't seen yet is Omno. It's a chill game with some exploration and puzzles to solve. The price is a little high for how short it is, but it regularly goes on sale and that's when I picked it up.

it's obviously not an exclusive but having Dark Souls: Remastered on switch is so amazing to me. I love that game and the fact that it runs really well in a portable state is so rad.

Aside from the first party Nintendo games, which are, as usual, solid to excellent entries in their respective series, I've really enjoyed

  • Celeste (precision platformer)
  • hollow knight (metroidvania)
  • Mario+Rabbids (turn based tactics)
  • Baba is you (puzzle)

I've still got a few puzzles left. There are a couple where I understand the solution conceptually but have no idea how to implement it. The abstract logical reasoning part is actually much easier for me than the spatial block pushing part.

No love for the Xenoblade Chronicles series????

    Also, 13 Sentinels

Surprised more people haven't mentioned Super Smash Bros: Ultimate! It's a series I've played since I was a kid, and this is by far the best one. Here's what you get with this platform fighter:

    • An extensive "World of Light" single player mode that involves playing through many challenges, unlocking the whole roster one by one. You get helpers along the way that you can level up as you play. Kids can sink an enormous amount of time into this.
    • Online multiplayer with no chat. You can see your global ranking with a character and do your best to rise in the ranks as you get better.
    • Local multiplayer with an incredible amount of modes and nobs to tune. You can all brawl with each other, against computers, on teams of any size and configuration. You can change the handicap, the items, the stages. You can do a variety of silly modes, change the win condition to whatever you want. For a group of people of different ages and skill levels, you can make the challenge just right so everyone has a shot of winning.
    • Ridley is a character. Every time I show this game to younger kids they immediately want to play as the dragon.

For a family, this game has a ton to offer in terms of individual challenge and group play. I recommend it highly.

You’re right on here! I had totally forgotten about SSBU, that game’s always a blast. Maybe I should get back into playing it…

The Switch absolutely slaps in the Metroidvania genre:

    Yoku's Island Express
    Cave Story+
    The Messenger
    Hollow Knight
Ori (both, but 2 is a masterpiece)
Axiom Verge (1st entry; I didn't love the 2nd as much)

Loved both Ori games but I think I actually preferred the first one. All that is to say it is NOT a situation where you need to slog through the first to get to the better game.

I think Monster Hunter Rise, Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild really represent what works for the Switch - games that are accessible enough for handhelds but deep enough to sink time into.

Other great games are Blasphemous, Dead Cells, and SMT 3/5. I don’t think any of them are exclusive aside from SMT V though.

Has to be ToTK. I really enjoyed Astral Chain but I haven't just spend so much more time in both BotW and ToTK it's hard for me to say it's my favorite.

ToTK is definitely a contender right now, but I haven't finished it yet.

But I have finished Mario Odyssey countless times, I simply just love it.

I'm completely new to the Switch gaming world, so only played a couple of games, but so far I like best:

    • Zelda BotW
    • Metroid Dread
    • Yoshi is nice too to enjoy with the GF

On the other hand, I just didn't manage to get hooked on Mario Kart (something feels wrong with the gameplay, I just doens't match the fun of Crash Team Racing on PS1 IMHO). Oh and Mario Odissey gives me a nauseous feeling of a Mario 64 where the original naivety was replaced by overabundance of gimmicks. I think I'm just too old and prefer 2D mario.

I actually am looking forward to mod my OLED switch and get Retroarch sweetness on that beautiful screen.

    Citizen_Insane,

Check out Kirby and the Forgotten Land
