Hi! Glad to see people finding this page even without any official announcement or anything

Great! I also looked it up just in case so I'm subscribing. We'll see what happens.

The more I use Kbin the more I like it, but it will have to be done carefully. There are some promising apps coming out soon, so once those have been released and show to be working that'll be a big help too.

DoomBananas,

Placeholder? Dmn, just move!

@DoomBananas We’re still weighing all the options and want to do what is best for the community. We will see if this is indeed the best place to move to vs another platform, or hosting our own instance even. Whatever we decide to do, we just don’t want to be hasty.

DoomBananas,

Yeah, from your pov that makes a lot of sense! I'm just soo keen on leaving the Reddit drama behind.

@DoomBananas you and me both! Right here seems to be the most promising alternative, but it’ll be something we mods have to all agree on and also make sure we give everyone enough notice so they can figure all this out too. I wish the Apollo dev would switch his app to point here instead of Reddit. Something that high profile could be the catalyst to finally get people to be ok with leaving Reddit finally.

DoomBananas,

If I have any worries it's getting the non tech explorers over to kbin (or lemmy for that sake). Understanding the fediverse might be a problem for some.

Edit: And yes some high profile exposure wouck kick ass!

@DoomBananas it’s definitely a new concept and not as simple as going to one site with a unified experience. I’d consider myself to be fairly tech savvy and got it down in a day, but others may see it as confusing and write it off entirely. It’ll be interesting to watch it all play out and see what emerges as the next successor to Reddit. I think some good marketing is needed for that to happen. “Reddit” is a catchy name, so a well-funded instance with a cool name/money to spend on marketing might need to come along first to grab people’s attention.

DoomBananas,

(Lack of) Unified experience is what I think will be the main issue for the non thech savvy. I see myself as kinda tech savvy, but my accounts spread over mastodon, lemmy.one and here on kbin beggs to differ XD

However I feel kbin is doing a good job (best atm) getting a unified peek into the Fediverse
