The structure of #OpenAI's argument here is this:

Accomplishing a task that is morally neutral and non-essential, but privately desireable, requires the company to engage in unethical and currently #illegal behaviour.

Their conclusion is that their #unethical behaviour ought to be made legal, so that they can continue their unethical behaviour without fear of judicial sanction.

It's like someone arguing that they cannot learn how to play rock and roll without downloading the complete discography of #Metallica from #Napster, and that their desire to learn to play rock and roll obligates Metallica to allow them free access.

@SimonRoyHughes The ChatGPT and similar are not even morally neutral tools. They are "hyped", dishonestly marketed and often produce very plausible rubbish.

They should close down Open AI
The LLM / ChatGPT issues

  1. IP theft content
  2. Environmental damage (data centre)
  3. Dubious profit mechanism.
  4. Large amounts of plausible rubbish produced by queries.
  5. No easy way to test veracity of answers.
  6. Privacy issues asking questions.

An expensive exploitive toy of almost no value that exploits creative humans.
