I was trying to run #Rancher on top of #k3s on a VM with 8GB of RAM, to simulate a #RaspberryPi, but when I saw the basic cluster and monitoring with NO apps using 50% of memory, all I could hear was @ironicbadger telling me to stop using Pis. 😮💨
Is Rancher really that memory hungry, or did I do something wrong? 🤔

@badnetmask it can be a little hungry when you start it up but after a while it should go to normal levels. Kubernetes generally is very memory hungry just by itself so I'm not too surprised. Maybe you can spin up some other VMs to help spread the load out?

Sure, I could. But then it would be unrealistic, because I'm trying to simulate a possible 2-node cluster before committing. If I need more than two VMs to run my apps, then it won't go to "production". 😔
@badnetmask ah I see. An architecture of 2 nodes is interesting to me because usually you target an odd number of nodes to have HA. So targeting an even number seems like an interesting choice off the bat. What are your goals with this cluster? Just a place to run your applications? Or are you looking for HA, scalability, etc?
@badnetmask zoidberg is running home assistant, Pihole, half a dozen LXCs for basic network services like Prometheus, smokping and so on plus my Unifi controller. 11w. ⚡️
