Greenpeace says it best

Doug Parr, Greenpeace UK’s chief scientist, said: “Every few months the government makes a grandiose public announcement about future nuclear in the hope that a big investor will believe the hype and step up to fund this 20th-century technology, but it isn’t working.

If you want nuclear, and a good mix of clean energy is healthy so it’s a good idea. You need to actually invest rather than hoping the free market will show up.

But the uk government is allergic to investing in the future of the country

I agree wholeheartedly. It would also be good to see some government investment to build UK nuclear engeneering expertise, rather than us having to rely on the French and/or Chinese.
