There is a very strong rumor that (if true) would be incredible for the fans of . The rumor is that is VERY pleased with the success of and are considering carrying this team into live-action in the .

If this is true, they would forgo the traditional origin story and give us the complete team introduced during the upcoming storyline. Personally, I think this is a GREAT idea. We don't need the origins of these beloved characters. To me, my X-men. 😎

@jacklaridian It's bittersweet news. Of course I'll watch it if they do it but it comes after 15 years of Marvel deliberately ignoring the X-Men in favour of their Avengers darlings (give or take a couple of recent cameos) because Sony had the film rights (and were producing drek with them). They even tried to replace them with Inhumans at one point to circumvent Sony's ownership. The X-Men have always been more popular than the Avengers and we've been saying that to Marvel ever since Iron Man snarked his way to fame.

I am very relieved we won't be seeing origins for the X-Men. That's something else we've been saying to Marvel and any film company who'd listen for a while now. No More Origins! It is perfectly acceptable to present a whole superhero and let audiences fill in the blanks.

And while it's great to see the '80s team again they were old in '92 when the first series launched. The X-world of the comics has advanced considerably since those days. Lifedeath was a story from 40 years ago. Shocked as I was to see E for Extinction that's still 23 years old. It's as retro as watching Stranger Things. Magneto's still depicted as a villain (in the opening titles at least), people still worship Xavier and his dream after decades of him being an immoral and manipulative old bastard, and we're back at that crusty old Mansion yet again, somethng X-fans shouted en masse to Marvel recently that they should not go back to after recent uoheavals in the status quo. That world has a place but I also want Marvel to reflect MY X-Men, not just the ones I was reading in my teens. Emma Frost is a cornerstone of the X world now; anything else is just sparkling White Queen.

(Sorry this was long. I am very passionate about the X-Men)

@Uraael
Me too. X-men are my babies.

Also, important history lesson, if you'll indulge me.

in 1996, Marvel filed for bankruptcy and the CEO at the time Ike Perlmutter (BOOO!!) sold off the right to all the most popular characters.

That's why all they had left to make movies out of was the Avengers. Worse than that, if Iron Man had flopped, those characters would now be owned by CHASE Manhattan Bank and there would never have even been an MCU. Huge gamble that paid off.

Uraael,

@jacklaridian Ok, I knew about the Perlmutter sell-offs but I did NOT know about Chase Manhattan waiting in the wings. Holy shit.

I understand intellectually why Marvel has made many of their decisions but my heart does not enjoy seeing them do the X-Men dirty.

Despite my grumbling I am also very pleased they've noticed how much we've appreciated '97. Feels like another gamble from them and Disney that is also paying dividends.

@Uraael
Yeah, but on the bad side they also fired the showrunner before this aired (inappropriate behavior, I think), so that's another hurdle.

The FOX Universe X-men were a mixed bag for most, that's why I'm excited to see Deadpool ROAST it in June. 😎

Uraael,

@jacklaridian Wow. Media is a minefield, innit.

Mixed bag is so right. Am looking forward to Deadpool as well. 🥰
