Apple considering securing Formula 1 rights

Apple is reportedly considering securing the global rights to Formula 1.

In a deal that F1 would not be able to say no to Apple would pay $2 billion for the exclusive rights to the sport. That’s double what the existing deals are worth.

Rights for the US and UK are a bit more difficult to secure in time for the 2024 season as ESPN has the rights for another 2 seasons in the US and Sky Sports in the UK has already secured the rights until the 2029 season.

So if Apple want the rights sooner than that they’ll have to get out the cheque book.

This won’t be the first sporting rights Apple has already secured Major League Soccer which is available on Apple TV for $14.99 per month but Apple TV+ subscribers get $2 off that price.

Expect a similar arrangement if they secure the Formula 1.
