The only metal band (doom/gothic in this case) that stands the test of time in my opinion is Novembre. Materia in particular is a masterpiece.
If you’re into black metal it’s different. There is a lot going on underground and each year we get something special. Just to name one: Solitvdo Hegemonikon.
