Should we just redirect ourselves to !mensliberation@lemmy.ca?

Hello everyone,

I guess, as much people here, I was looking for a place to discuss men-related issues.

!mensliberation is a quite active community, and discusses men-related topics.

You can have a look at the type of content here: lemmy.ca/post/2423539

I usually feel like Lemmy is too small to have several communities around the same topics, so I would suggest anyone interested to give it a try there.

morphballganon,

That name implies that men (specifically) are being oppressed, which is demonatrably false, so I think it’s a crummy name.

TheBananaKing,

If it’s anything like menslib on reddit, hell to the fucking no.

BoozeOrWater,

It’s really not

Iceblade02,

In my opinion, no. Most Menslib communities I’ve seen (including the one mentioned here) are primarily focused on a different topic from what Ask Men focuses on (feminism and a feminist outlook on men’s issues). Even if not particularly active at the moment, Ask Men provides it’s own, important niche for discussions and perspectives that should not be overlooked.

glad_cat,

Same answer. I have blocked mensliberation because of the focus on feminism. I would never tell women how to behave around men, that’s creepy (or worse).

GhostFence,

Yeah I avoid menslib forums. The idea of men’s issues being covered only under a feminist hegemony is as bad as a Conservative hegemony.

Doug,

I’ll be honest, when I saw the name of that community it gave me pause. I looked at the linked post and was pleased to find I was wrong about what I thought it probably was.

If only for that reason I think there’s value in keeping both. I think this could serve a different purpose as well though. Casual or inconsequential questions would fit better under an “ask men” name I think. Like “why do so many guys flush before they’re done peeing”

BoozeOrWater,

Both coexisting would make sense, but I’m always a bit cautious about spreading communities too thin. Anyway, let’s see how it goes

intensely_human,

If you want all communities to be singletons, go to reddit. This is the fediverse, which is decentralized and redundant by design.
