[Review] The Phoenix Guards (The Khaavren Romances #1)
This was recommended to me via a review on /r/fantasy a few months ago. They included a specific passage about the etymology of a certain bridge, and said passage made me laugh out loud & I swore I'd move the books to the top of my TBR.
Well, TBRs are capricious creatures, and so it wasn't until this past week that I got to it, and I have to say: The Phoenix Guards was most definitely worth the read. It made me laugh out loud more times than I could count, with a read-between-the-lines subtle sort of humor. If you're not paying attention, this book will likely be pretty boring, but if you're awake and present, it's hilarious.
Still, this sort of reading is pretty tiring, and I don't think I'll continue the series, at least for now. But it'll certainly stay on my TBR!
Rating: 4.5/5, rounded to 5.
/r/fantasy Bingo 2023 squares: Honestly I think it only fits Title with a Title, but it's HM for that.
