MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown,

Nice!
Make sure you have a hole in the bottom so rain can drain out and won’t flood the birds.

Also, gourds, squashes and melons are sluts, that can cross pollinate with a compatible variety up a half a mile away more. The seeds may not grow into the same type of gourd that they came from.
But at least you are not targeting an edible variety, that could become poisonous, so it’s worth a shot.

evasive_chimpanzee,

I bought some bottle gourd seeds that I’m going to try and grow this year. Hopefully I can keep the vine borers at bay.

reattach,

I was finally able to keep the vibe borers from killing my zucchini last year. Maybe I just got lucky, but this combo worked for me:

  1. Manual picking of eggs - I usually do this daily.
  2. Cover bottom of vines with aluminum foil.
  3. Spray with Bt. Follow package instructions, usually spray once or twice per week, depending on if it rained heavily.

Nothing worse than boring the vibe.

SchmidtGenetics,

That’s, quite the interesting idea!
