One thing I think is important to mention, is that Yu-Peng Chen has not been alone in composing for the game since Inazuma’s soundtracks, with many other composers writing many of the tracks as well. Yu-Peng continued to write most of the main motifs and biggest tracks, however. I’m not really worried about the quality of the music going forward myself, as the others have also written some great tracks and motifs. The reoccurring motif in “The Caress of Three Mothers” in the Vourukasha Oasis is one of my favorite recent ones, composed by Yijun Jiang.

Given his comment about Fontaine, and with him composing less and less tracks with each update, he might not have been involved with Fontaine’s music. Personally, I’ve loved Fontaines score so far, and am looking forward to what the other composers bring to the table.

That being said, his work on the game cannot be understated, and his scores for the series have been nothing less of iconic. Will really miss hearing his new themes for areas.

If anyone else is interested about a composer / arranger breakdown for music in the series, the Fandom wiki has full credits for all the released tracks. Album List Here!

Tywele,

Thank you for this comment. I wasn’t aware that Yu-Peng Chen wasn’t as involved in recent OSTs as in earlier ones. That’s kind of relieving to hear.

dudewitbow,

Big loss. Of the few things that makes the games a quality experience. Arguably top 3.

QuazarOmega,

I literally have a bunch of the game’s albums downloaded, playing them in the background, but they’re so damn good I always catch myself jamming to every other track.
With the coming tracks, I guess it won’t be the same anymore :(

This is a terrible day for rain…

Tywele,

I hope future Genshin OST won’t take a hit in quality from that.

LaggySnake,

Polumnia Omnia is one of my favorite boss themes ever, idk if the other boss themes are gonna surpass that, especially now that Yu-Peng Chen has left.

PrivateNoob,

A legend lost. Does anybody why did he leave?

QuazarOmega,

There’s a comment that may give a little insight on that www.bilibili.com/h5/comment/sub?oid=8404562729846…

Translated with Deepl

(Not great translation, but I don’t know Chinese soooo)

I used to read Mr. Chen’s early microblogging, saying that listening to La San Steel Association heard tears, do not want to be satisfied with the status quo to make money to retire and wait for death, if you do not go to create not to break through, life has no meaning. At that time to see these, to be honest have thought of Mr. Chen will also have to leave hoyomix one day, just did not expect that day to come so fast [aggrieved] thought Mr. Chen is to go in charge of animation project soundtrack, did not think it is to say goodbye [crying] but Mr. Chen may also have their own ideas and pursuit of it, or wish a bright future, and then new heights!

I guess he just wants to move on to something different, though I don’t understand such a decision if it is truly to reach new heights, maybe it is to have more creative freedom? Arguably the reach he got by working on the soundtracks of one of the biggest games of the last few years can never be matched since it is famous worldwide, so I doubt it’s that. Artists get tired too after all

RainShadow,

Being that he talks about releasing his own original album of compositions soon, seems like he wants to do some work on his own with more freedom. Totally understandable for an artist.

QuazarOmega,

Yes, I think so too

Afrazzle,

Sad seeing him go as he helped put out many beautiful soundtracks. I’m curious (and hopeful) to see if his departure will have a significant impact or if the hoyomix team will be able to carry the momentum.
