Kusimulkku,

We have a restaurant in an old prison

Kit,

The architecture is pretty interesting tbh

ElCanut,

That’s literally a panopticon

Instigate,

It’s designed for omnipresent surveillance of all of the cells, in such a manner that the people in the cells can’t tell if or when they’re being directly surveilled, such that a single guard can provide surveillance to an entire prison. It’s supposed to be a method of self/surveillance, as those in the cells never know when they’re being surveilled they act as though they always are. It’s a chilling metaphor for modern surveillance and capitalism and the irony becomes even more ironic given that this is Amazon who’s decided that they need to observe all their employees all the time.

Taleya,

Jokes on them, my monitor faces the back wall.

TheMauveAvenger,

For real. This building would have most certainly languished for years and then been torn down to be replaced by a cookie cutter development. Instead it has been repurposed in a unique way (by the city, not Amazon) so that it can continue to be used (by many companies, not just Amazon).

It’s fun to laugh at the irony, but overall this is a good thing.

Agreed, and personally I would much rather work smaller nicely renovated jail cells, than a cubicle hellscape.

Norgur,

And in the middle one Central Echo dot to do all the surveillance.

jagoan,

I mean, I’d take prison cell over open space offices.

GoddessOfGouda,

Probably same. It’s been a looong time since I worked in an office but at least prison cells have full height walls lmao

EyIchFragDochNur,

Solitary confinement vs group cell

RaoulDook,

Y’all are losing sight of the big picture. Amazon has workers working in an actual prison. They are just waiting for the opportunity to slam the cell doors closed and convert workers into slaves.

The correct answer to the news that your office will be in a prison is “I resign as of now”

This looks like open space with a window added.

AernaLingus,

Looks like the whole thing isn’t Amazon’s, but they rent space in it along with other companies

macaro,

I think maybe the Dutch are trying to rehabilitate unused spaces, but fail to see the irony.
