Grass,

Is the pro fairly powerful? I have the non-pro and it can barely handle running the os. Edit: damn that’s a pricy controller.

I also have the original PinePhone and bought Pro because the original is to slow :) Pro is way faster then the original, but is still slow compared to modern phones.

Yes, the controller is pricy. I tried buying GameSir X2 Pro first. It works with the original PP, but can’t charge and play with the Pro. I talked to megi about it and he said that the issue in the gamepad. Also it doesn’t have a headphone jack. So I sold it and bought a Backbone.

fleg,

Unpopular opinion: non-pro can handle the OS just fine and then some. Try out SailfishOS (unfortunately not OSS) - it’s as smooth as butter. Or UBPorts - it works great (unfortunately both Sailfish and UBPorts aren’t as polished when it comes to actual hardware support on PinePhone, but they show nicely what could be done). I don’t think I even need to mention Sxmo, which is no surprise that it works great, but its approach is definitely not for everyone.

It’s just Gnome/Plasma that are mainly developed for “big” computers and are pretty wasteful. But the situation is definitely improving.

Grass,

I have sxmo on it currently but I haven’t been using it much. I was exaggerating a bit, but it is just slow/choppy enough that I can’t do my typical web research comfortably

That’s dope as hell, and my personal favorite of the 3D GTAs. I still remember the general layout of the city without looking at a map, over twenty years later. I actually probably put more time into this game than any of the follow ups.

My friends and I used to look for little pieces of the map that would send our cars flying and spinning, because that kind of stuff racked up “points” that paid out as cash money to spend in the game. Endless hours just driving as fast as possible and trying to flip the car in the air as many times as possible.

It was such a pioneer for the series, going from 2D to 3D, one of the best transitions ever made for that type of game. Up there with Mario 64 in terms of success of translation of key elements of gameplay from one type of media to the next.

I’ve been wanting a PinePhone for a while for experimenting with, and I keep seeing super cool stuff like this being done with them!
