Secret300,

I watched the anime and loved it. Do plan to pick up the manga eventually

lobelia581,

i have a personal grudge against this series because i came up with the same idea a week before i discovered it and it didn’t hit the right spot compared to my own imagination, but otherwise i think it’s decent

BoxerDevil,

Hey just because someone else came up with a similar idea doesn’t mean you Also, can’t put a similar story out. Maybe yours is better. Never know till you put it on paper

Essence_of_Meh,

Hard yay. Early teething problems are quickly fixed as series found its footing, Miko('s suffering) is great and other characters have always more to them than their first appearance would suggest.

Monster designs are always on point and can be used in an extremely effective way. It’s a fantastic horror comedy.

Monster spoilerI’ll never forget you balloon boy. You were great.

BlindFrog,

spoilerI HATE balloon boy, and hospital grandma! :C

WHOLESOMENESS. I love this series’ wholesomeness ;u;

Also, for awareness, the author has a fanbox (it’s like patreon, I think?) at izumi000.fanbox.cc

Essence_of_Meh,

spoiler

He just wanted a hug…

Good find with the fanbox, seems like he’s posting early drafts of the chapters for dirty cheap.

I did not like it. I really enjoyed the first few chapter, but a lot of stuff went wrong after that. The pointless sexualization of minors (Hana) made it really suffocating, The last chapter I read progresses like a typical shonen, so that was also a big no.

Your comment next to the other one is kinda funny… They’re lamenting that the series stops doing fan-service, and you’re one of the people who got turned off on the series before it wised up to not doing it.

Not sure what you mean by the story being typical, tho.

Spoiler below, warning! The part where the twin guardian spirits are introduced. The genre just flipped from slice of life to action. That particular part was where I stopped reading the manga further.

Don’t they stick around for like three chapters, and end up being a twist?

velox_vulnus,

Further spoilersYes, I do remember that those spirits can be used only thrice, and then there’s also a shrine deity waiting for the payments. By the time, I had lost my interest, and I did not pursue any of the newer chapters.

I’m not sure I can agree with the idea that the point of that was the action… But rather the mystery of what those spirits were. Same as any horror Miko encounters in the series.

You’re attributing your loss of interest to a genre shift I don’t think was there. The hooks of intrigue simply didn’t interest you, which is absolutely fair. But they are definitely the reason the rest of us are still reading, rather than the “action”.

Although, it does help that the art has been consistently amazing.

IMO the series has maintained its quality, and even improved over time, such as by dropping the fanservice.

I suspect it might not’ve been your type of thing to begin with, and the main reason you enjoyed it at first was the novelty.

The series has done pretty much everything it could have done to stay interesting within the premise, I think.

velox_vulnus,

Maybe I don’t like reading manga anymore, I guess. What I’m probably looking for is a full-sized novel in the form of graphic novel. The last thing I’ve read was HakoMari, and I quite enjoyed it, despite some of it’s flaws.

Essence_of_Meh,

What was the last chapter you’ve read? I’m curious what made it shonen-like.

velox_vulnus, (edited )

Spoiler warning! That particular part where the twin guardian spirit crushes the cat-loving sensei’s controlling mother, who turned into a malovalent spirit. I don’t even remember the characters name, it’s been so long.

Essence_of_Meh,

Hmm, I guess I can see it that. While ghost battles never become the main focus, thankfully, there are a few more action heavy chapters later on as well, which would probably be just as annoying for you as this one. Not many of them, sure, but that’s a perfectly valid reason to drop it - there’s no reason to suffer through something you don’t enjoy.

SanndyTheManndy,

A great read. Perfect combo of creepy horror and the rare wholesome moment. I kinda miss the early fanservice, though…

MentalEdge,

The series is better off without it, putting it into everything means turning away lots of people who might’ve otherwise enjoyed a series.

Us degenerates can go read Mato Seihei no Slave or the like if we wanna look at some lewd lineart.

Came for horror, discovered ecchi

Manga lovers never disappoint

SanndyTheManndy,

To be honest, I think it is an overreaction to be unable to handle the occasional panty shot. It seems like they are projecting their own morbid fascination with teenage girls onto everyone. The fanservice added a nice touch to the overall experience. You had horror, wholesome, and ecchi in the same manga. That is a somewhat novel combo these days. Chained soldier has a very different vibe.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

There’s nothing wrong with ecchi, but it can definitely be a bit of a fly in the soup for a lot of people, especially with manga and anime. And there’s nothing wrong with that, either.

I like fanservice in a lot of what I read and watch, but I’ve disliked it in just as many things. I don’t think you can make a blanket statement along the lines of “these people are just repressed prudes” for being unable to look past it when it is present.
