Why is there a theatrical edit of Rebel Moon Part One: A Child Of Fire?

The movie was only playing in four theaters, basically. I get wanting to make a PG-13 edit for general audiences but the director's cut is supposed to have a lot more footage, which would probably fix the pacing complaints. Knowing Snyder's theatrical cuts' reputation for being subpar, I'm not even going to watch the PG-13...
