Dinner means night. Surely the child won't be awake for 6 hours. You will likely do toddler dinner then bed time routine and then they will be asleep. Ask to go over a day early to shadow the bedtime routine.

jws_shadotak, in Any advice for babysitting a toddler for 6 hours-ish?

For kids around that age, it’s much easier to distract them from something than it is to calm them down about it. If he’s crying about not being able to eat dirt, distract him with a ball or some shit and he’ll immediately forget about it.

Don’t let them out of your sight.

Play with wooden blocks. You can do some sensory play (shape goes in which shaped hole, etc).

Peekaboo is a solid smile maker.

Don’t?

At 13 months, just started to walk. Every single thing is new. Go for a walk, go to the park. Go to the back yard. Just bring a diaper bag and lots of snacks.

You really can’t go wrong, anything is a toy and everything goes in their mouth.

Good luck

deegeese,

“Everything goes in their mouth” is the easiest way for things to go wrong.

Don’t turn your back on them for a second.

Excellent suggestion and explanation, will be trying this out

I take my 3y son to a different room and talk about it and ask him to explain his feelings, which he does, so this could be a great next step

ProfessorZhu, in Hidden Side of Steve Jobs And Bill Gates: They Banned Their Kids From iPads And Other Devices They Created

Gates allowed his kids but restricted screen time. This has been recommended to every parent since tablets and phones became so common

50gp,

problem with young pre school kids is that they dont yet understand what they are seeing on displays, so screen time is pretty much wasted time

  • xeronine,

Thanks for actually taking the time to read and comment. Sadly this community seems a little barren for now.

He isn’t complaining luckily, but I couldn’t help but to notice he’s approaching the older end of the typical child there. I think it was more feeling guilty about not being able to afford something “nicer”. You do have a fair point though that it does provide a lot of things which is way better than just staying home while I work and playing on a device or watching TV.

    Thanks for the reassurance :)

ThrobbinRobin, in My dead dad’s journal: How I finally met a man I knew for my entire life

I cried while reading this. My father is still alive but my partner recently lost her mother to cancer and it’s been an ordeal. Thanks for sharing this.

This is a good one! Sounds like an example of art therapy.

Heeeyy. I'm another parent who's migrated here from reddit. Reddit had some great communities for parents, and I'm really hoping we can rebuild it here.
