So they mentioned the Silicon Valley religion/cult and I was reminded of a Tech Won’t Save Us ep about it where they talked about this article about so called TESCREALism ie:

Transhumanism
Extropianism
Singularitartianism
Cosmism
Rationalism
Effective Altruism
Longtermism

Very important companion to this ep imo

I’m honestly down for a some of that and the whole “god doesn’t exist yet” idea, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let Silicon Valley psychos be the techpriests of the new machine god.

It’s kind of funny how the techbro philanthropic ideologies also keep evolving so fast, like seasonal fads, and people sometimes put them in their social media profiles as a virtue signal.

I think one aspect for why they exist is to provide an excuse for skipping over real on the ground issues like nukes, climate change, sustainability, geopolitical tensions and so on. It’s very convenient to say one is worried about ‘the digital AI god just around the corner’ and therefore all other worries don’t matter anymore, you still paint yourself as this farseeing defender of humanity while doing nothing to really help it. A legitimacy booster for elites, kind of like how medieval rulers would get these (probably all fake) religious relics, like the nails from the crucifixion, to buy themselves extra legitimacy with people.
