You have to build a team using Pokémon of a single type...

They can be dual-typed, but at least one of those has to match the type you choose. What type are you choosing, and what's your team look like?

I would have to choose Bug-type, of course. Team composition would be Galvantula, Yanmega, Heracross, Centiskorch, Genesect, and Rabsca. As to why... I just like 'em, lol. I'm not much of a competitive player. What would your team/type be?

Hmm, it's hard to pick a single type. I do love my steel types (channeling my inner Steven), but I also adore water types. Let's just pick steel.

  • Lucario is a super easy pick. He's a beast and fan favorite.
  • Metagross is one of my favorites ever since I first got one in Sapphire. Plus pseudolegendary, so he's essential.
  • I really love Aegislash. The design and typing are both fantastic.
  • Tinkaton was a favourite in Violet and it's design is so cool. It's honestly not very strong, but I'd bring it along for fun.
  • Violet's brutal raids also made me fall in love with Kingambit. I only used him for raids, but damn was he cool.
  • Because I also love water types, gotta have that Empoleon. It's a classic design, anyway.

Possible replacements:

  • Gholdengo could be swapped for Aegislash. Give me some more balance for physical vs special and his ability is top tier. I don't care for his design though.
  • Ground is my nemesis. I probably should have a flier or levitator. I'd probably opt for swapping tink with corviknight. I love the design of corviknight and the lore makes it a hilarious pick to swap.
paper,

I like grass types, I'd go

  • Meowscarada for special coverage (protean is still really good)
  • Gogoat for physical coverage (thing gets a few ground/rock moves)
  • Leavanny for X-Scissor crits and Sticky Web
  • Leafeon for Leaf Blade + Swords Dance sweeps (best eeveelution)
  • Cradily for some serious bulk
  • Lurantis for contrary shenanigans

Meowscarada is probably my favorite of the new starters.

I'm still more than a little disappointed that Lurantis isn't a bug type. Praying mantises are my favorite IRL bugs, and bug type is my favorite pokemon type... And pink is my favorite color! 🥲 I mean, we have Scyther. But Lurantis...

That's a killer team, though. And grass is a close second for favorite types, personally.

paper,

I was initially disappointed that Sprigatito stood up, but I actually fell in love with the design lol Lurantis is one of my favorite pokemon, I always thought it was weird that it was pure grass type

I was, too. I saw Meowscarada and it was like, "ugh, ANOTHER bipedal final stage starter?" But... It grew on me. I like it even more than Fuecoco and co., and that was going to be my first pick for starter at the start of the new gen. I STILL have not played the game... 😅

But when I do get around to finally buying it, Sprigatito will be my bff.

I love the design of meowscarada the best, but where the signature moves are concerned, torch song is miles ahead of the other starters and made me glad I picked the fire starter. I mean, it's an already strong move that makes you considerably stronger each time you use it. After a couple of uses, you'll sweep basically anything. Feels overpowered, honestly. Usually you only have a chance of raising an offensive stat or the attack is really weak (like power up punch).

See, I'm the worst about picking Pokémon team comp. I do... Pretty basic coverage in my teams, but I've never concerned myself much with squeezing out the most power I can from my team. Not that that's a bad thing! I'm envious of people who do, lol. But I'm a "fashion over function" kinda guy so most of my 'mons end up getting picked mostly out of design aesthetic... 😅

I have removed overwhelmingly weak options from my teams in favor of stronger Pokémon, but for the most part... It's like, "oooh, I like that! You're on my team now," lol.

Even with my bug team comp, Rabsca only made the cut over Ribombee because I like having a psychic type on my team. I've always had a psychic type on my team.

OutrageousUmpire,

Hmmm, I'll try a real challenge for me:

  • Snorlax
  • Raticate
  • Pidgeot
  • Oranguru
  • Lickilicky
  • Smeargle
SSUPII,

Snorlax is a massive self carry in every singleplayer game!

HoornseBakfiets,

I used to do that, I really like the idea of a Pokémon game where the player is a gym leader

Steel type; Metagross, Agron, Empoleon, Bronzong, Magnezone, Skarmory

I'd have to go either normal or water types. Idk who exactly for either, that'd be a tough choice. So many good ones!

Triplexxor,

I would go with fairy types. My team would be Sylveon, Tinkaton, Gardevoir, Galarian Rapidash and Flutter Mane.

My reason for the team is that I really like the design of them and I just like them overall. They can also receive and deal a huge amounts of damage. Sylveon have almost exclusively managed to carry me through the games.

I've never had the chance to use Sylveon, but I'd love to! I'm a pretty big fan of Eevee and all its evolutions. Also, of all the types to build a team around "design aesthetic" Fairy is probably the most appropriate, lol!

SavvyWolf,

I think I sticked to only using Fire type when I played one of the recent games, if only because a lot of my favorite pokemon (Ninetales, Arcanine, Houndoom, Salazzle) were that type.

Getting the TM for Flamethrower late in the game was a massive power spike. Type coverage isn't really an issue as well, because of sunny day + solarbeam.

Dark type. 100% just because I play by the rule of cool and my favourite Pokémon belong to that type. Not sure about the entire team, but Houndoom, Mightyena, and Umbreon would be there for sure.

@aRatherDapperFox@lemmy.ml avatar

Strong choices all around. Dark type is definitely in my top five, and I love Mightyena. I think it's easy to sleep on, since you get access to Poochyena literally right out of the gate, but it's a seriously tough Pokémon.
